Personally, preventative medicine is where it is at. It is less invasive, less costly and has lower mortality rates! However, there is no money in preventative medicine, and in fact, can cost hospitals millions.
Flu vaccines given out like crazy - nice good preventative medicine. Well, the hospital was counting on so many admissions during "flu season" that didn't occur, on account of the flu vac.
Part of the problem with our health care: it's tertiary care focused. But unfortunately, that is where the money is.
