Some American women still feel that way. I spent the summer with some younger women 18-21, and was suprised that they felt that way. They are from conservative families with money. These ladies are going to college to find husbands and do exactly as this article states. I was shocked. One is attending a conservative Christian college in the midwest this coming year. She is looking for a husband not a major. I specifically asked her what she would major in and she told me that it did not matter as she never planned to work anyway. She is a beautiful girl, and I am sure will have many young guys knocking at her door. I just could not believe it, but I guess from my sociology course, it all depends on how one is raised.

Its sad, but very true. I attended a conservative bible college and it was a standing joke that the name was "Toccoa BRIDAL College", not Bible College. I left after a semester but I estimate that 3 out of 5 of my classmates were engaged by the second term.

Give it to the one who posted above me...:angryfire

Yeah, I just saw that. I'm still cleaning off my monitor.

All I can saw is WOW!!! :uhoh3:

I guess what I find funny is my husband does the cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children because I work full time and go to school full time.

Real or not, I am glad that times have changed!!!

i can't believe that this is for real it may have been true in the 30s ??but the ww2 changed a lot of things.,..women worked and earned paychecks==

in the 50s ,at least in the south ,the women marched for civil rights and for equal pay

the woman vote became something to be considered when decisions were to be made...

True.

If we already had civil rights and equal pay for equal work there would be no need to march.

In 1969 nurses in California went on strike for a say in nursing practice.

At that time the hospital gardener was paid more than the RNs.

One retired nurse who participated said it proved they cared more for the flowers than the patients.

Beautiful article. Too bad we have to go half way around the world to find wives like this nowadays. Oh well, at least some cultures still keep to the way things should be.

In your opinion that is. Sooooo unfortunate that today's women are and have been taught to think for themselves.

If the last man on earth had the same expectations of that article, i'd demand a recount.

It was over 50 years ago, and that was the prevailing attitude at the time, like it or not. You'll have to stop buying every women's magazine that was around at that time because they all had similar articles.

Exactly.

And for those that still want the please-your-man themed magazine, subscribe to the 21st century's Cosmopolitan. For a magazine (at its debut) that was supposed to be aimed at the single independent woman, it sure had gone to the ****ter.

Half way around the world..

Yes, that goes on in Thailand....along with 8-12 year olds being prostitutes, and loser guys lining up for sex tours. I'm sure that the wife-broker that sells ....oops arranges the match will guarantee the wife's faithfulness and virginity.

Have you ever seen a picture of Helen Gurley Brown, the originator of the magazine?

Lord, the woman is the most hideous skeleton to grace a Dior gown.

Blech. I bet that mentality works well for you on the dating scene:uhoh3:

No kidding... Well, every village has their... oh, never mind.

I say we all pitch in and buy him a one-way ticket half way around the world to find such a wife.

Or, it might be cheaper if all of us pitched in 25 cents for a good doormat.

My grandmother was raised with those kinds of beliefs. I am now a college student, and she is VERY supportive of women going out and making something for themselves. It's good for EVERYONE to be accomplished, and nobody's self esteem is helped out by having their highest goals set out to stand in the shadow of someone else. Being considerate is a staple for any marriage, but there's nothing that says it's best to be a doormat.

Imagine us all if we still believed the earth was flat...or depression was caused by demons needing to escape through a hole drilled in your head? Glad most of us were able to not cling to things of the past.

When you know better, you should do better.

I think the poster made that remark to get a rise out of you. You fell for it.

I went to school in the 70s. When I was taking home ec. our book had similar advice for us. My mother believed this is how a woman should behave until she died 3 years ago. It was just how things were back then. There are plenty of people around who still think this way. It's not all that unheard of.
