Tell me this, why does every employer I interview with have different $ amounts for salary based on years experience? Its quite interesting to hear. One will tell me " well according to your years in nursing you would be making $. Than the next would be $6 higher. And this is a combimation of hospital and clinic jobs. I have had 3 hospitals give me entirely different pay rates. Does anyone have the answer to this ?

Supply and demand (and their guesses about how cheaply they can get the help they need).

Compensation is not an exact science. Each business uses their own formulas to develop compsensation grades/standards/practices. My facility gives %'s for experience, education and certifications. Example: an applicant with 5 years experience = 16%-19% above base, BSN = 5% above base, and CCRN = 2% above base. So that applicant would get a quote between 23% - 26% above base.

Funny because I interviewed at three places and got offers within .10 an hour of each other. I choose where I currently work not based on the salary.
However, when you get outside the city into the surrounding areas the pay varies greatly. Tampa for instance pays about 2.00 to 4.00 more than across the water in St. Petersburg.

And Sarasota and Bradenton are probably even lower than St. Petersburg. Believe me, the cost of living is not that much different!
