Accelerated nursing program at university of miami or florida atlantic university

Hello all, I am a Canadian aspiring nurse who wants to get into an accelerated nursing program in the united states. I was just wondering how competitive my stats are in general for an accelerated nursing program in the U.S and whether i have a chance for admission AT the univesity of miami and florida atlantic accelerated programs(if any one could tell me the average GPA admission stats that would be awesome). I was also wondering whether the fact that I am an international student will affect my application and whether i must be more competitive then in state or even outstate American students to be admitted. Any input or thoughts would be appreciated, thanks for your time for all those who prospectively reply, i greatly appreciate it!

Hello I am currently a student at FAU transferring to Barry University for nursing school. FAU is very competitive. The lowest GPA is 3.5, and you also have to take the HESI entrance test. I took it and got 80s and below. You should get 90s and above.Fau's nclex pass rate is not as high. I recommend Barry, its the same price as UM and the nclex pass rate is high. Plus UM was almost at risk of losing thier accredidation.

I'm currently in FAU's accelerated BSN program. I don't know anything about UM though, so I can only give you my side. FAU's program is very competitive, but from what I've seen, all nursing programs these days are extremely competitive. You didn't mention your stats, but I had a 3.75 GPA, mostly A's and a few B's on my pre-requisite classes, and I got in the 90% range on the HESI extrance exam (which is a very basic test of your math, reading, grammar and vocab skills). This year they accepted 75 students total for both the accelerated and regular nursing program combined out of hundreds of applicants. I don't think you being international should in any way affect your chances, as long as you have the required pre-requisties done.

I know the other commenter said FAU didn't have as good of a NCLEX passing rate, but that is not what I've heard or experienced. I've heard that everyone passes the NCLEX. I know that 1/2 of the people that graduated in May have taken it, and so far every single one of them has passed on the first try.

Question Re: Accelerated nursing program at university of miami or florida atlantic university
Thanks for everyones input, brina8615-- I have a gpa of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale but my school uses a 4.33 scale so on that scale my actual school cGpa is a 3.68...From what I understand, at FAU they do not convert your transcript grades to fit to their schools grading system, rather, they just take your own institutional GPA from the school you come from and use that..my question is, since I come from a canadian school and my schools gpa system is based on the 4.33 scale, will they look at my gpa and convert it to a 4.0 scale(which is i presume what they use) or take my gpa for what it is during the admission review process....also do you happen to know what the lowest Cgpa or Prereq GPA was DURING your year of entrance into the program at FAU..bvincen3 said the lowest they have accepted is a 3.5 cgpa..my last question..sorry for bombarding you all at once...do you know how often they offer the HESI extrance exam to be written...being that I am in canada and plan on entering an accelerated program in MAY 2010 when should i ideally write it (with consideration particularly of application time for FAU) I cant stress enough how thankful I am for everyones help!.

Hi Brina,
Did you go to FAU prior to attending the accelerated program? Where did you take you HESI exam because I am in tampa so I won't be able to take it at their campus and the website does not say anything about how to register online. I would appreciate it if you can help. Thanks.
