In reading the requirements on their website, 3.0 is required to get into nursing program. I didn't do good in college for my undergrad (i have a 3.05 cumulative GPA) and have about a b average for all of the prerequisites. I was wondering if anyone got in with a 3.0?

I noticed your posts from the allnurse home page, and I've been looking at a lot of the same programs you have.. most of the information is on the website, and if it's not they'll have a contact you can email and ask for some stats. I think a lot of it will depend on the caliber of students applying when you do. If you apply with a a lot of students who have 4.0, you're out of luck.. but I don't think that is the case. The 4.0 crowd is going to Yale, NYU or the really good (and competitive) public schools. Fairfield is good, definitely, but not quite that caliber. I wouldn't lose hope.

Are you saying that private schools are much easier to get into since they cost more? I noticed that a lot when i called a few public colleges. They told me that they usually get more applicants compared to private colleges.

Yeah I think they might be easier because they have more spots. Private school seem to have a lower accepted student/applicant ratio. Public schools get more applicants per seat. I don't think its a universal rule, but its definitely what I've found through my own personal research.

to the OP...

I see that you have posted lots of threads regarding accelerated BSN programs. I understand your concern, since your overall undergrad gpa was a 3.05 (if I understand the thread properly).

It seems like you are worried about your chances of becoming a nurse because of your gpa. Don't be. I know many people with a lower gpa than that (significantly lower) who have become nurses.

The key? You need to look for programs that look at the GPA IN THE REQUIRED PREREQUISITE COURSES ONLY, and see what your gpa is in those specific courses. You may have to retake a few of those prerequisite courses at a local community college for that program (see what their policy is on retakes some have a limit others average grades and still others don't care).

All hope isn't lost!

also, please post in the regional area when asking about specific programs. You have like ten posts on the general nursing thread about this...usually in a specific area you will get the information you want, although it may take a little longer!

Moderators, is there any way we can consolidate the OP's recent posts and/or move them to an appropriate forum on the site? Several similar posts seem to be overwhelming the home page. Thanks in advance.

Have you looked into Dominican College in NY? They have an accelerated BSN program and your grades might be fine but if I were you I would contact them directly for some correct information
