The concept maps that I am learning about - are these generally used as an educational tool, or are they actually used in places of work?

ACK! Concept Maps are used to torment students. No, they are not used in real places of work (I've never seen one). Generally, it is just a way to get students to see the holistic approach-how everything is linked together when caring for the patient's illness. At my nursing school we had to do concept maps ONLY because our Dean was trying to get a specific extra-nifty certification for "Her" program, and the certifying agency required that students do concept maps.

Geez, I knew people that did, hung onto it, and re-used them several times-the instructors even thought that they were stupid. :rotfl:

my first concept map - after writing the major medical diagnosis, then I am supposed to add associated nursing diagnoses - is this done simply by identifying diagnoses, or by using something like a framework (eg. Gordon's 11 functional health patterns)?

thanks, I'll check these
