A different kind of Salary question

  1. I know that us soon-to-be nurses are concerned about salary and folks on the board currently working don't want to get too personal about what the make, and that is totally understandable.

I don't really understand how the shift-differentials, etc, work.

So no one has their privacy violated, let's just assume $20 hr, time and a half for overtime. and I have no idea of what to use as examples for on-call, holiday, evening, night, etc. Feel free to ad lib.

Thanks! This my make the picture clear.

Well...I find it differs for city, state, facility really.

For me, and I don't mind the question so I will tag in with mine. I have been a nurse 7 years, and make around 27.00 an hour. I work swings so my facility gives a swing differential of 1.50 an hour. If I work a weekend I get the swing dif as well as a weekend diff of 2.00 an hour. Holidays I get time and a half....

So if you look at it...my best day would be a swing shift on a weekend holiday! LOL!!!!!!!! That is two differentials equalling 3.50 additional an hour, and time and half and hour too!

After my orientation probation (3 months), I get a raise in base pay to 28.50 an hour! Still with my differential of 1.50 for swings, and 2.00 weekends and time half for holidays!

SO pretty good I say OR at least I am very happy with it!

WHen I started nursing I think I made about 23.00 an hour with those perks.

Where I work swing shift is 10% of base pay extra and nights is 15%. Holidays, 8 per year, are time and a half, weekends are a flat $10.00 extra per shift.

I work 8 hour days so my swing shift is 1500 to 2330.

For 3-11 (or for the 3-7 or 7-11 part of a 12-hour shift) we get $2.00 hour more added onto our salary.

For 11-7 we get $4.00 hour added onto our base salary.

Weekends there is an additional $1.00 added onto the base salary on all shifts.

People who agree to work weekends only get $5.00 hour added onto their base pay.

    Ah heck I only get 10% for 3p-11p, and 13% for 11p-7a.
For working holidays= time & half plus holiday pay, and nothing for the weekends!

    We get several differentials:

2.00/hour bedside differential (for working at the bedside and not in managment/in class/etc)
    4.50/hour diff 3p-11p
    4.00/hour diff 11p-7a
    4.50/hour weekends
Time and a half for overtime, no holiday pay though (boo)

So basically on a weekend night at the bedside from 3p-11p i can make $11/hour over my base pay. Not too shabby!

This is good! This is good!

Well, it gives people like us an idea of what to go and look for when searching for jobs.

Thanks for all of the posts!

    No weekend diff.
    Nights 15%
Holidays, time and a half plus 8 hours if I work. 8 hours pay if I don't work.
    No swing.
If I pick up a float shift, it's double time plus $12.50/hr.

Technically - working the hours that occur during the shift from day to night. So, 2nd shift. 4:00PM-12:00pm or 3:00PM-11:PM
