Just got an email from Georgetown about this. Sounds like a good deal if you live around DC or want to move there. (G'town's tuition is pretty hefty.)

If you agree to work for Washington Hospital Center for 3 years, they'll pay 80% of your tuition for an accelerated BSN.

Not a bad deal indeed. Unfortunately, or rather fortunately, I already have my RN license.

That's a good deal and I live in the DC area. The WHC is a great level 1 trauma hospital. I already have my RN though.

Another great deal is offered through Hopkins. They will PAY IN FULL for you to go to anesthesia school at Georgetown (they don't have their own CRNA program). You have to have 3 years working as an RN with Hopkins first and agree to return to Hopkins as a CRNA.

I have heard that, if you take the scholarship, you must work in whatever department they want you to, and you also have to work whatever hours they want you to work (e.g. graveyard), etc. If you get stuck working in a situation you don't like, it would be really tough. Plus, the cost of living in D.C. for three years (for me) would be almost triple what the scholarship would pay.

If you live in that area, or want to remain in that area post-Georgetown, it would most likely be a good thing. It's just kind-of weird that the scholarship information page really DOESN'T give you much information (like the drawbacks)!

Oh, I also wanted to say that a private student loan (for those who never have, DO NOT get mixed up in any kind of government student loan program!) for the money the scholarship pays ($40,000) would probably be much better in the long run than what you have to sacrifice for WHC.

The WHC is a Union hospital. You are not going to get abused. Everyone is protected by the contract. You can read the entire contract at http://www.nursesunited.org

Are you recommending private student loans over federal student loans? Why on earth?

This would not be an option for me - but I wanted to say thanks for sharing - it is important to let others know about these kinds of opportunities.
