in response to the post of "how bout 1DUI=5 yr loss of license". are you serious? hopefully you never find yourself on the wrong side of the law. we'll see if you like an extreme punishment for a first offense. until you walk in someone else's skin, dont judge.
I can honestly say that I haven't had 2 drinks and driven. I can honestly say that I haven't had 1 drink and driven!! It's completely irresponsible and I would never be able to live with myself if I hurt somebody. Yes, people make mistakes, but 3?? Three DUI's is not a mistake, there's a deeper problem there.

I've seen a lot of people leave parties after just having a couple of drinks and then driving home. I can honestly say I haven't done this since about age 21 but there are many that still do. These people in parties and events I've attended in the last couple of years include school teachers, police officers, nurses, all sorts of "pillars of society".
Easy to lie and get holier than thou on a web forum though because of the anonymity.

I am a recovering alchoholic. And yes I have driven drunk, but I know how deadly it was. I was fortunate not to have killed any one. I thank God every day I only harmed myself. 3 DUI's is a choice. The BON here does check criminal records every time you renew your nursing license. If you have been arrested once the board will send you to Peer assistance If they take you it is a 2 yr program and you go or lose your license.
Like so many others have said If she has 3 she has an alchohol problem if not addiction. The only trreatment for alchoholism is abstinence.
If I knew her I would NOT allow her to take care of patients. She has show bad judgement in her life Why would I allow her to involve her bad judgement in my life.

I can. I do like to drink, but I learned at an early age that alcohol and driving do not mix. I saw way too many classmates get killed. It stuck on my mind and never left. As the years have gone by I have seen too many people lose their lives due to someone else drinking and driving. This day and age there is no excuse for anyone driving after drinking. We have ALL seen what can happen and we have ALL gotten the message that is it wrong. As someone else mentioned 3 DUIs are not a mistake. And as someone else mentioned, how many other times did she drive drunk and not get caught??
I think you need to have some compassion for the other people on the road that have to hope to God one of you "its just mistake" people aren't driving next to them. Give me a break!  | | No. 44 |

Not sure what acting "holier than thou" has to do with anything.
Some of these fine upstanding folks get caught. I'm thinking of the state attorney general who got nailed after some sort of banquet where she said she had two large glasses of wine. She drove into a ditch and messed up her car. When officers started to ticket her, she tried to use her position to get out of it. Instead, she lost her bid for re-election.
Then there's the college president who failed a field sobriety test. His BAC was over twice the legal limit. The college board fired him ten days later for conduct that sets a poor example for the community, especially for the students he is supposed to be leading.
Better for both of these folks to lose their jobs for getting ticketed than for committing vehicular homicide with their weaving cars.

So I'm wondering what the Hell happened to this peace8 who starts this thread like we're to feel sorry for this poor nurse having to actually walk due to this outrageous "MANDATORY" law? Starting a thread like this for sympathy then vanishing? Quote peace8 "The new law in michigan for 3 dui's, over the entire life of u r drivers license, is MANDATORY 5 yrs loss of license. My girlfriend is going through this and had to take an apt. near the hospital so she could walk to work. Lives too far for her SO to drive her everyday. holier than thou is one thing, honest is another. my father was a prosecutor for many years, he saw many people killed from drunk driving. He would come home in tears seeing little children with broken necks and mothers and complete famillies killed by selfish people. he retired as a lawyer and now volunteers taking drunk drivers through morgues for the police dept to show them what their selfishness has done. i asked him if i could go on his tour with himand i did, i saw a whole family dead from a drunk driver. i cried for 3 days, i couldn't blieve a human could kill a whole family with one wrong decision.
i have never drank or smoked in my life. holier than thou? maybe, but i have seen first hand the acts of people only thinking of themselves. dad is 73 now, not in great health because someone he put in jail got out and tried to run him over. but dad still works for the police dept with the drunk drivers and high school students ( he does this for free). he says if he can save one life , it is all worth it. he will do it until the day he dies.
no one is perfect , but don't visit your drinking problems on other lives.

Could be she was a little overwhelmed at the vehement reaction she received and has taken cover.
To the OP--it isn't you we're responding to. It's the idea that anyone could get three DUIs and still somehow focus mainly on the hardship the penalties are causing them. I'm thinking that having to live near the hospital where she works (she's lucky she still has her license) is far less a strain than doing hard time for injuring or even killing someone with her car.
I'm glad we're having this discussion.
