When I worked at the nursing home, my former supervisor (recently retired), she graduated nursing school in the 1940's and used to tell me the stories. There are a ton of them, but she told me how the state boards used to be half practical and she had to demonstrate how to deliver a baby in breech position!!
I seriously would have had an MI if I had to demonstrate ANYTHING in front of board members, even if it was just handwashing!!

Neat to see how we have evolved. Some great, some not so great. All in all, I think nurses had less headaches and probably enjoyed their jobs more "back in the day." Must be something to that thought with the nursing "shortage" that has taken hold. For myself, I am not sure if I enjoy nursing less than I did because I have been in it for so long or because it has truly gotten worse. Most probably both reasons apply.
