Hello everyone,

What is your opinion on that?

I am the person who got hurt physically, but after that sentence from the boss I am emotionally stressed. I hope people who had decades of experience will pause and think that they had been on that point being new.

The reason you hurt your back is likely because your boss has not provided you with proper equipment, assistance or training or a combination of any of the above.

Have said boss explain workers compensation laws to you and be sure to fill out an incident report.

Workers compensation should cover a medical evaluation of your injury.

I am sorry you were injured and I wish you a speedy recovery.

I would love to see some evidence supporting that statement. Personally, I couldn't find any, rather the opposite. So the real message in that statement is, "I don't care about you or your back. I don't want to be bothered with this and I'm going to make you feel incompetent and blame your self. (man I'm good)".

Seriously?? Seasoned nurses hurt their back , usually from lack of staff, or not enough lift equipment! How insensitive! Hope you feel better soon! And, don't let her words stress you out!

Really? Like he really said that to you? I hurt my back at work a few weeks ago and It's been a while since I graduated!

I agree that it really has less to do with being a new grad and more to do with having the right equipment, training and help. At. St. Anthony's in St. Louis they have all the safe patient handling equipment you could want. It really is a great help and a back saver. I hope you can ask about equipment to help you do your job and save your back!

Back injuries occur on the job due to insufficient lift equipment, poor body mechanics, overweight patients, insufficient staff. It is not a "new grad vs old nurse" kind of deal.

Your boss needs to be re-educated as to what causes on-the-job injuries.

Make sure you filled an incident report and have filed appropriate paperwork/followed procedures so that your back will be seen and condition not aggravated. Good luck; hope you feel better soon.
