Well, ours started today. Very nice cooler that holds a 6-pack that has a netted beach bag on top. Hospital colors and logo, of course. Inside was a beach ball, a bottle huggie and a frisbee..all... Read More

Please make time for yourself or you'll end up being a client anyway!!!! Self care is something health care professionals deny themselves of so often. No wonder so many nurses are ill. Please, please do this & don't worry about falling asleep, most of my clients in my private practice fall asleep on my table & I think that is a compliment, they are comfortable enough to do so. :kiss

We got a pack of gum with a computer-generated appreciation certificate and lunch. Then we had a day of raffle prizes for nursing staff. We also had a questionaire that quizzed us about our administrative staff (all dept.s). Whoever gets all the answers right gets their name in a hat and whoever gets picked out of the hat gets a day off with pay. Last year, I won a day off with pay. That was nice.

I was suprised at Nurse's week at my hospital. Every day we had lunch catered, we got a mug and id clip, 2 tee shirts, ice cream and a thank you. Although it was not just for the nurses it was for any hospital employee there at each time. I kind of feel slighted the ward clerks have a day and the nurses dont have a special time just for them it has become hospital employee appreciation day.

My second job as a nurse, I got a gift certificate to Cheddars, and a leather note pad and pen. It is a much smaller place and it was a fantastic gift.

What week? We had a day, but, then had nursing home week which was fun. For Nurse Aprrec. Day, each nurse (Rn and Lpn) got personalized gifts: Walmart gift card, big drinking glass (no logos) filled with candy. From reading all these posts, I think I work in a great place. 14 more yrs and I will have a bed there. LOL

We received a badge holder; the kind that has a retractable line. when you use it to clock in your neck gets jerked forward. not a good omen at the start of a 12 hour shift!:chuckle

The day after nurses' day (officially May 6th), our entire unit of 30+ nurses and aides received a Zip-Lock sandwich bag containing 12 Brach's Star-Lite mints (the red qnd white ones), which was stapled to a half-inflated balloon. The Zip-Lock was somewhat the worse for wear, and some of the mints were chipped.

    Could they spare it?

Nurses aren't given any special recognition where I work, they had hospital week...one day they had a cook out in which most of whom i work with got sick including myself, they had some gospel music, a book and a cheap pen. One day they had bingo and volley ball, which i would like to know who had time to leave the floors to play....hmmmmm maybe those who aren't nurses got to go.

We are applying for Magnet status so the Hospital had nice white polo shirts made with 'Journey Toward Magnet' and the hosp system name on it. Also, different treats every day.

This week for Hospital Week, we had treats again then crablegs, shrimp, mussels and scallop dinner at a greatly reduced price on Thursday.

In the NICU, the formula companies gave us canvas bags and frisbees. But we get goodies from them all year long...good PR, of course, but I love it! I never have to buy pens or note pads!!

We occassionly receive movie tickets from the hospital just for a job well done.

This year we will receive $50 toward our CEU's/seminar for the year. That's a good deal I think, plus the CEU's we receive in the hospital inservices are free.

We're not a small outfit, 3 large couty hospitals and a nursing home in system; thousands of employees; we also accept no tax money. And while they may not always be able to give the raises they (or we) want, I know they appreciate our work.

I won a prize for nurse's week, a coupon for McDonald's, Oh, it was buy one sandwich and get one free. Then there was the coupon for a local plant shop, for $20.00, but guess what it also, had fine print. You had to buy $20.00 first then the next $20.00 was free,The merchandice was nice but pricey, get a better price at Walmart without a coupon. But at least they made and effort. I guess its the thought that counts.

Way back when, I worked in a grocery store as a clerk.... a not very taxing on the brain job. I got things like 100 dollar savings bonds and profit sharing checks.
So when I received a cheap plastic pen and calculator last week for nurse "appreciation" week...neither of which worked...it's a bit irritating.

    Thanks, Suz!

I'm still in shock over it. We should have seen it coming though....the state of mental health care is getting worse every day. Where in the world are mentally ill people supposed to get treatment?!

We were part of a major hospital network. It will be interesting to see what the main hospital in this city does with the psych patients that come to their ER. We were the only psych hospital for over a hundred mile radius.

    (back to the subject.....)

I've got an entire rack of T-shirts accumulated over the years. I enjoyed all the food gifts this year. We got several meals catered for us and bags of candy (chocolate!!)
