"NP's Are Smart Nurses" ????

I was in the PA forum recently and I read from one PA that him and the doctor's that he works with regard NP's as just "smart nurses". So what are RN's to them??? Is this the general attitude of Doctor's towards nurses???:mad:

Well then...I hate to be irreverent but let's consider this simple analogy:

NPs are to smart nurses as PAs are to _________ doctors.

(*hint* use your SAT skills)

I want to be an NP and don't mind being a smart nurse, haha. I've met plenty of people who would want to see a NP over a doctor because the NP actually explains things.

It would be horrible if NPs actually get treated like this everywhere. I hope not.

If all the attitudes of doctors, PAs, and patients on NPs reflect the posts on SDN...NPs would have been phased out or eliminated long ago. The stuff people post there about NPs is truly disheartening. However, you'll notice that most posts that rag on NPs are either from current medical/PA students or people who are younger (There are also a lot of guilty RNs/NPs that post crap about PAs as well) and just starting out.

Regardless of what you read, insecure *******s come with all sorts of degrees (whether it be MDs/DOs/PAs/NPs and etc) and the best thing any of us can really do is to just be our best.

As a medical student I love the sense of community on this form which I did not find over at some other forums I shall not name but lets say its starts with an S and ends with a N.

However the one thing I dislike about this forum is the stereotyping. If one doctor says a negative comment why is he/she given the title of spokesperson for the medical community?

Another comment that grinds my gears is that NP provide more nurturing care. No some NP are more willing to listen and provide great care others also lack bedside manners. I hate this comment as it does a great disservice to the PCP I have seen for the last five years who has been extermely supportive of me as I face medical problems.

Note I understand the OP is venting and I am not trying to take away from her vent. I am simply venting myself.

LOL.

Anyway... chalk it up to semantics. Often when people say "smart" they really mean "well educated" Yeah. NPs are more educated than bedside nurses. Therefore, when discussing the pt's care with the medical team the NP sounds "smarter" than the nurses. The NP KNOWS more. At least I hope so.

A smart nurse is a certainly a good thing, but I think that the speaker was implying that NPs are the only smart ones while other nurses (RNs & LPNs) are not so smart.

No I think they meant that NP are smart "nurses". Key word is nurse, they probably don't believe that a NP has the skill set to diagnosis and prescribe. They meant that a NP is just a nurse who is more educated.....

It was a nasty comment but then again some people are just nasty.
