Radiation safety during ERCP

Hi,

One of the protective guidelines SGNA lists to minimize radiation exposure is;

"Wear lead-lined aprons, thyroid collars, gloves and protective eyewear in accordance with institutional guidelines."

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) states "An annual maximum permissible dose for the lens of the eye is 15 rem per year".

The staff at my clinic wear lead-lined aprons and thyroid collars (and gloves if needed). We don't use protective eyewear other than the plastic goggles we use during routine exams. So, I would like to know:

What is the standard for your clinic regarding use of "lead-lined" eyewear during fluoro exams?

Thanks, Moorcroft.

Default Re: Radiation safety during ERCP
Moorcroft, I always use the lead-lined goggles (as required by standards). They are provided by the Radiology department.
