Esophageal diverticulitis?

Hi, I am a nursing student but I am here to inquire about a friend. Her father is said to have diverticulitis of the throat/esophagus. I have never heard of this...only of the colon. Can anyone tell me about it and what the usual plan of action would be to take care of it???
