I'm working on a digestive system unit and have a case that I don't really understand. 30 yr old female, with hx of IBS-C. Has hyperactive bowel sounds in all 4 quadrants. Bowel movements are small, hard, and lumpy. Last bm was reported 3 days ago - about the size of a walnut, and the same about 3 days before that.
I don't really understand having hyperactive bowel sounds AND constipation. I'm thinking maybe a bowel obstruction? That would cause the bowels to continue moving, but very little can get through? Are there different kinds of bowel obstructions that go with IBS? Any thoughts?
