GA LPN's only and Excelsoir College

This is only for LPN's in GA that are getting thier ADN through Excelsior college. I wanted to know if any of you are in the middle, close to finishing and have finished their nursing program (EC)? We all know about the drama that went down with EC and GA about a yr or two ago. Well now GA BON accept's EC grad but you have to do preceptorship. Are you all having trouble getting into a hospital to get your preceptors? And is there anyone that is starting or already well on your way of reaching your RN goal?

I'm working on my last 4 preqs and I want to continue distance learning with EC but if I'm going to have trouble with getting my preceptors hours then I'm looking into Darton College. Which doesnt even start their next program until Oct 2010

Good luck on whatever you choose! I'm an Excelsior ADN grad in Georgia and I, just yesterday, got an RN job in North Carolina. I found the the preceptorship might be more difficult to accomplish than just getting a year of experience out of state. I've phoned or emailed ALL of the Atlanta area hospitals and NONE of them do any sort of program for non-traditional students. Excelsior explained to me that graduates are no longer under the school's insurance. I'm certain at this point in my search, that there is NO preceptorship. Maybe the GBON will put something together for grads in the future.

If you want to continue with Excelsior and you HAVE to live in Georgia you can always commute to another state or get a job with the VA for a year, then endorse into Georgia.

Good luck! If I had to do the ADN program over again, I would NOT go through Excelsior. It's an awesome program, but not for Georgia residents.

Thank you so much for the info. I love Atlanta but I do have a sister that lives in Charlotte N.C. Right now I'm going to just focus on completing my gen ed, wait it out until then which will be aroung May 2010 and if things arent any better with the preceptorship then I'm going to apply to Darton College I guess.

So Suzanne would the hopsitals not hire you and then let you use your orianation time with an RN as your preceptor hours??
