Why Would He...??

Have a collaguethat graduated from the same program I did 3 months after I did. I took my NCLEX-PN exam last June and so did many of the friends that we both knew. This gentlemen has been letting people think that he took the exam and passed, and is waiting for orientation to start at my job for nursing. Just found out that this guy never took NCLEX, he is re-taking remedial classes for some course the registrar discovered that was not done successfully. Most of us are disgusted at this person...not because he owes anyone an explanation about taking the exam, but that he openly lied. I did check the BON in my state, and did not see his name. There is no way for anyone to know if he took the exam and failed...the BON only lists those that have passed, not those that have attempted or even applied. Why misrepresent yourself as a nurse if you are not??? This has created an uproar. I personally don't plan to say anything to the guy about it because he didn't lie to me, and I don't want to embarass him, but I have to admit that it is insulting to me that this person is lying because we all know what mental anguish it took for us to become nurses, and I would have felt better if there was no lie at all.

It doesn't sound like you're much of a "friend" to me.

I actually feel a bit sorry for the guy. He probably didn't expect to fail (if he did) and probably doesn't know how to admit that things didn't go the way he planned. In other words, he might be in need of a real friend.

You are right, I am not his friend; we are co-workers, so correction was needed there. There is more to the story than I am saying because I don't want to identify the person in case they post here. Without leaving many obvious hints, I will just say that this is a person that did not commit himself to the entire program, and has said and done very unfair things from disrespecting professors and collagues at both, the school as well as the workplace by taking slick actions the entire time.

Re: Why Would He...??

TurtleSoup; I thought a great deal about your comment on the way home from work and wish to say that while I am not a friend or fan of this person, what I had to acknowledge was that I did not show any compassion, and for that, I was not right. There were two things that I should have done that I didn't; 1. was that I didn't share the entire story, leaving things up to the interpetation of the readers on these boards and that 2., empathy was not shown, no matter what type of person this is. I had to admit first, that this is nor would ever be a friend of mine, but that doesn't mean that someone should not be there to support him.
In fact, I will mention this revelation to those that have also made catty comments behind his back, simply so that we can all know that any one of us may be in his shoes. He did many things that called for the anger, but none of us should sit in the seat of judgement, because things do have a tendency to come out in the open whether we like it or not. Thanks! :0)

Re: Why Would He...??

Sounds like he's embarrassed he's the only one who didn't pass when all his contemporaries DID. Now he's scrambling to make up the class(es) he needs to retake the NCLEX. Do I have this right?

Re: Why Would He...??

WOW! It's not that serious really. If so, Pray for the guy. It changes things positively moreso than any other method.
When you begin a new job as a new nurse, you have enough adversity in that alone not including the gossip that you may plan to spread.
My instructor would always say, "tell me just the facts, take the emotion out of the fact."
So now with this in mind, go over that post you begin earlier. You will then see that maybe, it's not that serious.
When you have to go out of your way to expose another, often it does the opposite, and puts the spotlight on you.

Re: Why Would He...??

He didn't take NCLEX at this time because he is taking remedial class that was overlooked. Not trying to defend our personal attacks, but this came from other issues besides this that came to a head due to other things he did. But, from my own perspective, it was not nice to add to the already brewing drama in his personal life.

Re: Why Would He...??

There will always be someone around you don't like. There will always be someone who got their job, and you didn't think it was fair. There will always be someone who does things differently, non-traditionally, or in a different way than everyone else. He probably never expected the situation with these classes to come up. Give him a break.

My advise from one "professional" to another: Get your nose out of his business and focus on working on yourself.
