I will be starting lpn school at Orlando tech in August and I wanted to know what new grads make in orlando florida.

Hey, I went to Orlando Tech too. As a new grad you can expect 15-18/hr depending on where you work. If you want to work in a doctors office, the pay will be very low, as well as the hospital. There arent many LPN hospital positions and most ask for hospital experience, then they dont even pay a decent wage. I knew ppl who were techs at the hospital for a long time and to be an LPN they actually wouldve taken a pay cut! Home health is decent (most cases will pay 16-20/hr), and the nursing homes tend to pay well too. I havent worked in any nursing homes bc I knew it wasnt for me as far as the patient load.

thank you so much for your reply! I currently work as an insurance agent selling medicare insurance and I make $13. so I hope that I will be making somewhere between $17-18 p/hr. I am happen to have you reply because I certainly would like to get the heads up on orlando tech. How was the program in your opinion? did you work while going to school? ( I have to work. I am a single mom and my daughter depends on me) . I will be going part-time nights 4pm-9pm m-th. Are the teachers very strick? I want to know everything please help I am very nervous to start. what do you suggest I do to prepare myself.

you also mention that you would not work in a nursing home. I have a snf down the street from my house I thought about applying there after school because I thought this was all that lpn's do, work in nursing homes or snf, what other work can a lpn do and make a decent salary. I want to work hopefully in an area where the work load will not be 50 patients that I won't even have time to learn the ropes. I've been reading some other blogs and I have read where new lpn grads have gone to work in snf/hhc and was given 3 days of training then they got thrown to the sharks.
