POLL: What states have LPN/LVN hospital JOBS?

I have been an LPN for 25 yrs - But since I have moved to NJ - NO hospital jobs! Damn Magnet STATUS!

Check in let me know - I am curious. I had alot of jobs in my 25 yrs- Ped-ICU-ER- in FL -OK-TX- but NJ is dried up - even for GNs!

I am in RN program- and plan to move to TX after RN. I have a TX LVN license- but couldn't sell my NJ house! So I will be RN in May 2009.

I am saddened to see LPN's not utilized! I worked my ass off for 25 yrs - and got half the pay! Did RNs job and mine too!

Moving to NJ - forced me to go back for RN!

Ohio does at Children's in Columbus, in the NICU. They are phasing out PCA's in the NICU only so that they can have nurses with the special care babies.

I'm in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in Texas, and there are quite a few LVN/LPN jobs around here.

Re: POLL: What states have LPN/LVN hospital JOBS?

Some of the hospitals in California hire LVN's, if they are not trying for magnate status, but I thought hospitals were phasing LVN/LPN's back in for economic reasons, and because they couldn't get adequate staffing any other way.

I am disappointed also, but plan to find something to make me happy. There are a lot of jobs for all of us, and I think the trick is to keep looking.

Is that too Pollyannish?

Re: POLL: What states have LPN/LVN hospital JOBS?

I live in New York, and there are several hospitals that still hire LPNs in my area. My hospital has applied for magnet, but because we are a union hospital, and also that my job paid for me to have a leave of absence with 100% pay along with tuition to become an LPN. At best, if they decided to get rid of LPNs, they would probably do it by attrition or they would be obligated to find us another position with no reduction in pay. That might actually be better off for me, if nursing really does start getting on my nerves.

Now that I think of it, most of those hospitals that still utilize LPNs are union hospitals.

Childrens in Columbus, Ohio is Magnet Status (has been for a while) and has been hiring LPN's for home-care for a long time, they just started hiring them again for in-hospital jobs like the NICU and phasing out the PCA's.

NOT S. Indiana! It's all LTC or Dr.'s offices. My grandma was an LPN at one of the local hospitals, (along with several nurses I work with) who were "phased out" about 20 years ago. There are a few LPN's still hanging on in hospitals, but they are woefully underpaid.

Hi i know you posted this awhile back. New Jersey does have LPN jobs at hospitals. They are far and few between. I was aksed to interview for an ER position at a hospital in Neark. Yes im an LPN with maily Sub Acute and hospice care experience. Also Raritan Bay hires LPNs and a few others. As the needs for RNs increases some hospitals are starting to hire advance practice LPNS. However the payrates for hospital work is lower. Much Lower in some cases. If you are closes to NYC many hospitals hire LPNs again at a lower rate than LTC.
