nothing other than what I came in with

I went to LPN school and am now finishing up an LPN-RN bridge program August 7th. I've been working in LTC facility my entire career.

6. What are the satisfying aspects of your job?
love the residents..making them smile, getting through to a "difficult" resident..seeing improvements in health..getting a thank you from family member/resident/staff..money is fair

documenting/charting
overseeing 20-22 residents
delegating to CNAs

the managers who know nothing about residents
the nurse:resident ratio..we have a HEAVY med pass
everyone doesn't do their job

having the care for so many residents
the new report system
rules being made up without staff or residents in mind
useless paperwork

It's this facility, I don't think it's typical but I'm sure there are other places similar.

stressful at times
laidback at times
busy
disorganized

We have to keep our license current and also complete some type of computerized assessments each month.

13. what is one aspect of a candidate do you look for when you are interviewing? I don't conduct interviews but when I've been interviewed the answer about the turnover rate is a big thing for me.

1. What is your educational background? Diploma of vocational nursing, and about 38 credit hours accrued at my local community college

2. How many hours to you work in one week? Between 40 and 72 hours per week; this varies since I work 2 jobs.

3. what is your job title? LVN charge nurse

4. what sort of training have you obtained from the job? Skills-based stuff...I am too tired to go into detail

5. what has been your career path so far? Primarily caught in the vortex of nursing homes. I also have a limited amount of psychiatric nursing experience.

6. What are the satisfying aspects of your job? The flexibility, and the paycheck

7. what are your major responsibilities? Med administration, treatments, wound care, documentation, reporting changes in condition, assessments, and much more.

8. What are the greatest pressures, strains or anxieties ? Dealing with abusive family members, rude physicians, bullying coworkers, demanding patients, and unsympathetic managers

9. what are the dissatisying aspects of your job? Is this typical of the field? Again, I find it very dissatisfying to deal with abusive family members, snippy doctors, demanding patients, callous coworkers, and incompetent managers

10. How would you describe the atmoshere/culture of the workplace? To make a long story short, I'd say that my workplace has a "tattletale" culture

11. can you recommend learning skill about the job or occupation I'm unsure

12. What type of continuing education does your job requires? Biweekly inservices on issues such as abuse, residents' rights, proper transfer techniques, IV therapy, incontinent care, wound care, etc.

13. what is one aspect of a candidate do you look for when you are interviewing? As a floor nurse, I typically do not interview candidates
