Unhappy New LPN, New Job, Think I made a mistake Pt 2

Hi
Thank you all for your feedback. I have been working now for about a week and have decided I think I should have gone to a smaller facility. The staff has been really supportive (well, most of them), I just feel as if I am in way over my head. So..this is my question...Do I leave now, during orientation giving 2 wks notice or leave a note for the DON, (she is pretty unapproachable) or what..I am really not trying to sound flaky..just right now I don't even know if nursing is for me. Help!

I would submit a two week letter and move on. They cannot make you remain there. How long did you work there? Did you have any other jobs to use on your resume? If you are still under orientation, it seems that you were not there for long, and I would just leave and not use their name as a reference.

Re: New LPN, New Job, Think I made a mistake Pt 2

Hi..
Thanks for the response! I started there a week ago, I am a new LPN. I passed my boards in January and due to some health problems (D&C-and gallbladder surgery) I had to put my search on hold till recently. I am still in orientation till Saturday (I think), I just am not sure if I should give 2 wks, leave a note or what to do. Thanks again!

Have you ever thought about assisted living?? I am a new lpn also...and I interviewed at an assisted living facility..my mom had told me too...shes a RN...and had done wound care there...she had said everyone was nice there...and she was right...anyways...I had my finger printing done and now I have to get a physical..etc...But I believe for me its the place to start...slower pace...you get to know the people......I will only be working prn...for now...fill in for vacations, etc...but I believe they will be training me properly, since they arent in any hurry to get me working! So I look at that as a good thing for me.....any way...goodluck to you!!

Re: New LPN, New Job, Think I made a mistake Pt 2

What shift do you work? As a new nurse, I started on 3rds, which is usually the quietest shift. I STILL felt like I was in over my head at first, (for a couple of months), but finally found my way. It was painful and scary, and I second (and third, and fourth) guessed myself frequently. It is a WHOLE DIFFERENT world out here compared to school. I worked 11-7 for 7 months and just recently started on 7p-7a shifts which has allowed me to "ease" in to more hectic situations that I feel much more prepared for now. Anyway, if you really feel that you need to move on, I would put in 2 weeks notice. I was taught in school to not "burn any bridges" with employers because chances are sometime down the road, you may end up wanting to come back. Besides, it always looks good on a resume`.
