Our entire department of assessors are LPN's-the dept. head is an RN. She signs off their cases-when she is not available due to time off another RN must sign off for them(usually a supe) .My co-workers had to apply for the openings-no one has been hired off the street. They have all been filled in house. They had no special training prior to getting their positions.

Hello,

I would start by expressing interest to your director of nursing or your current MDS coordinator, ask them if they need help in that department.

That is how I started, have now been doing it for more than 10 yrs and have been a regional MDS coordinator for a major company in the NE US.

Good luck.
