Hospital LPN's, what states are you working in?

Here in NJ, no one wants to hire us! Looking to make a move soon, want to know where you are working.

Thanks

Re: Hospital LPN's, what states are you working in?

Last month Detroit hired a few LPN's. Metro Detroit not hiring. Roscommon,Gaylord, Grayling is not hiring LPN's either. They do have some on staff but they have years in with the hospitals. Rumor at my school is that the LPN program will start to be a 2 yr program from One year and that if you go on to the RN program it will be an additional 2 yrs. They say this will make the hospitals hire LPN's again.

Re: Hospital LPN's, what states are you working in?

I work at Kettering Medical Center in Kettering, OH. This hospital hires only a few LPN's though. I think the powers-that-be are trying to phase them out except for in a few areas. I believe that Premier Health Partners (Miami Valley Hospital, Good Samaritan, and Middletown Regional) does hire LPN's, but I have also heard from a couple that they aren't treated with respect.

I like working in the hospital, but since Ohio's nurse practice act is very restrictive, it's a pain in the butt. Fortunately for me, this will no longer be an issue in about 8 months because I should have my RN license by then!

IMHO LPN's are underutilized by hospitals. I know some LPN's that are every bit as clinically proficient as RN's.

Not too many LPN's are hired as LPNS here either.

I live in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

John Peter Smith Hospital hires LVNs, albeit at the horrible pay rate of $12.50 hourly. Medical Center of Arlington hires LVNs at the rate of $13.00 hourly. Kindred Hospital hires LVNs at decent pay rates, but the nurses are expected to perform full care on the patients.

The extended care facilities in this area, however, pay LVNs between $18 and $22 hourly.

If you're looking at the Los Angeles area, Kaiser Hospital hires a few LVNs at the rate of $17 hourly. Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura, California, hires a few LVNs per year. Ventura is a charming city by the beach.

Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar, California, hires LVNs at the base rate of $2,600 monthly.

Kindred Hospitals have a poor overall reputation. They are basically long-term hospitals for folks on vents. They meet the criteria for Medicaid but their staffing is horrid. I am sure she earns her $32/hour and more.
