Help Please... I need a Telemetry certification

I have been searching for a place that provides Telemetry certification. I already have BLS, ACLS, IV, and Central line. Now most places that I want to work at would like for an LPN to have Telemetry Certificate. Where do I get one of those? Does anyone know if there is a website or school? I would be willing to travel to find a place that offers this. Please help.
thanks

Well you can go for EKG program or you can do it in the hospital..
They are called different but are the same..( EKG program or Arythmia program)..
I did the EKG thing and work in hospital but here I see that people are starting as Securities or housekeeping and do the program that the hospital offers..
Maybe is hard to find a program only for EKG because most schools offer it through Medical Assistant program..
The length is 28 hours in hospital or 2 to 3 months in school program..
In medical assisted program we did it in 6 weeks but learned nothing..I learned everything with practice and in the orientation..
Anyway, I am surprised that they ask from LPN to have this certification..
Good luck

Re: Help Please... I need a Telemetry certification

I have a HCT degree which covers some EKG stuff but not for me to be in a critical unit I feel like I would need more experience. I have worked on a unit that had 2 telemetry rooms. I knew how to hook them up... make sure it was working... and be able to know normal sinus and a fib... but other than that... I am lost.

Re: Help Please... I need a Telemetry certification

I am also surprised that they are asking for certification...unless they are asking that you produce a certificate of attendence saying that you sat for an EKG course. I would check into community colleges, and maybe even the yellow pages or newspaper. I noticed that some of the schools for CNA offer the course, but I have wondered if it is more generalized, since CNAs don't normally interpet. In NYC, they list places that offer EKG courses all over the classifieds. I would just be sure that they are really covering all of the rhythms, because placing the leads is one thing...the licensed nurse is responsible for monitoring for early symptoms and responding on a timely basis.

Also, call your old school, maybe they know of some places that offer the course. I took one in New York at Beth Israel School of Nursing. It was excellent! I did not utilize the skill, just yet, but their 3 day class taught me so much! I remember trying to figure out how on earth they would be able to cram all of that in three days, but those women sure did, and I still refer to my notes every now and then.

Re: Help Please... I need a Telemetry certification

Just thought of something...in addition, I would ask one of the places I applied where these courses are located to obtain the certification they are looking for.
