Frustrated LVN cant find a job. What to do?

I passed NCLEX in december of 07. I recieved my license in Feb. of 08, every since then I have been looking for work. I have been on several interviews with no luck. I have applied to SNF'S, hospitals and private practices. I also have worked with my school in hopes of finding a job and no luck. It seems everyone wants someone with a year experience, how do I get it if know one gives me a chance. Maybe, I should go back to customer service. Can anyone give me any advice I would really appreciate it.

Can you move to Kennewick or Richland, WA? They always have ads for LPN's at the nursing homes. Do you like to work night shift? They have a $5,000 sign on bonus for an LPN who wants full time night shift. They have a $3,000 sign on bonus for day LPN and a $4,000 bonus for eve shift LPN.

I don't know what state you are in, but here in Rochester, New York they are begging for LPNs. I work at a nursing home and always have full time and part time openings on just about every shift.

Yeah, my area also.

Could you have someone knowlegeable like a former teacher do a practice interview with you? It seems odd that they are interviewing you if there aren't any positions open so maybe there is something that you can tweak with the interview process. Good luck.

Where do you live? In both states I've lived in there is a huge need for LPN/LVNs especially in the nursing homes.

Most potential workplaces set up interviews only if they are at least remotely interested in hiring you. They likely saw something on your employment application or resume that interested them enough to pick up the phone, call you, and schedule an interview.

Is there something that can be changed about your interview style or method of answering questions during this process? In my area, most of the LVN jobs require at least 1 to 3 years of experience, but new grads still get offered positions if they made a good impression at the interview.

Re: Frustrated LVN cant find a job. What to do?

Thanks for the suggestions. I live in Los Angeles, CA and most of the interviews I've done go really well. They say I will call you in a week for a second interview but never do. I applied at a snf and the DON seemed really interested in hiring me. I was told by the HR staff they would do a background check and call me in 3 days, I never got the call. So I figured I would be more aggressive and call back to see what happened. When I called I was told to call back in a week, because administration was on vacation. When I called. The DON just said I'm working on it and hung up on me. Today had an appointment at a registry when I got there know one was there, so I called from the front door the manager told me they would be out of the office the whole day, but know one said that when I talked to them on friday. I am so frustrated beyond belief. Can the economy be the blame?

Keep on applying. Wait a length of time and reapply if you have to. My first full time job as an LVN hired me the second time I applied. Around August, go to your local Maxim Healthcare office. They hire everyone with a valid license to work their flu clinics. A modest start, but a first job for your resume. Just don't give up. Sooner or later, someone will hire you.

Re: Frustrated LVN cant find a job. What to do?

Were in your graduating class did you rank as I know for some schools including the one I will be attending they give their best students the best job openings to try for so if you graduated at the top of your class make sure your getting all the benefits you can out of your school.

Also its takes the average american 4 months to find a new job so don't feel discouraged. My husband was recently job hunting and he though he was going to get a new one within a week ( it took 3 which is very short) He also felt very discouraged as he went on a few interviews where he was a perfect match for the job and felt he interviewed well but do one bothered to call back.
