Favorite Job

I just thought I'd start a thread different from all the "LPN nursing school threads" and the "LPN vs RN" threads.

Of all the jobs you've had as an LVN, what was your favorite?
Also, what is the single most important thing you've learned from a job?

I'll start:
My favorite job was working at Chino Prison, you got to actually talk back to your patients there. Plus the mood was more relaxed (oddly enough) and the staffing ratios were actually put in force.

The single most important thing I've learned from a job was that regardless of how crazy, and hectic your day is; you can actually accomplish way more than you think, and at the end of the day you can go home feeling that a job was well done.

Thanks everyone! Keep posting!

Re: Favorite Job

Stange as it may sound, my favourite job is the one I have now. I work LTC, and have been in alotta places. The Administrator is decent, and so is the DON. (Of course, when I started, the present DOn was the Midnight nurse.) You can actually talk to these two, and they let the staff voice opinions, etc. If we are off-base....they acknowledge your ideas, and explain why things can't fly at that time.

Of course, I am an RN now. I got that "push" to go on, and everyone worked around my school schedule. What more could one want?

Re: Favorite Job

I'll reply, mainly because I, too, appreciate a thread that is not one of the two above-mentioned!

I honestly have loved all my jobs; but I think the one I will always hold closest to my heart was as a nurse at an independent birth center. I taught classes, worked in the office, attended births as the midwife's assistant, and did follow up home visits. I loved loved loved that job.

The most important thing I've learned is that every person has a unique and amazing story. Just when I would get a little grumpy and cynical, and let myself stereotype a pt, I would get slapped up side the head with a pt who would completely prove me wrong. I feel like every time I work is another epidsode of "this American Life" where Ihear these amazing stories of people who seem so "normal." Which has led me to believe that normal actually is pretty amazing.

I assume that I will one day soon go back for my RN, but I am certainly not feeling much pressure to do so. I love my role as an LPN, and I really enjoy my job. I feel lucky to have found a profession that suites me so well and makes me so happy.

Re: Favorite Job

My position in a family practice medical clinic( and later when chosen as primary nurse to an internist) was my favorite. The work days and hours were great(with weekends off)!!! I was thrilled by the variety of illnesses/variety of clients, the ability to watch interesting procedures, etc. I thoroughly LOVED it! I'd still be there had the pay not been so poor.
The most important thing I've learned is to always expect the unexpected.....because it usually happens!
