Can you tell us more about your situation? Are you in an LPN/LVN program now? Interested in a particular specialty?

Re: Which experience is more valuable Unit Secretary or Doctor's office?

I plan on starting nursing school if I am accepted in AUGUST of 2007. I have recently started a job a doctor's office but I may be offered employment with a local hospital as a unit secretary and I wanted to know which experience would be more valuable?!

Re: Which experience is more valuable Unit Secretary or Doctor's office?

It depends on what you would be doing in the office, I am going to go out on a limb and guess that at the office you would be doing front office work?
Either job would be somewhat helpful, in as much as learning medical terminology and dealing with the public, however, not so much in the "mechanics" of nursing. If I had to choose one over the other, I'd probably pick unit secretary because you'll have exposure to acute care nursing. That being said, it would be even more beneficial to get a job as a nursing assistant if you don't already have experience. If you become a good NA, chances are you'll be a good nurse.
