Hi everyone..
I am new to the board. I just took my nclex monday, feb 12 in san diego california. The test was an absolute nightmare. I graduated from my lvn program with really good grades and I swear I felt like I knew nothing on that exam. Especially the pharmacology. I am wondering if I can still pass if I completely bombed the pharm??

Also, I heard that you can't check the bvnpt website for licence verification, in california, in order to find out if you passed sooner?? I heard they don't post your name until you pay the $100 fee?? Any truth to that cause I have been checking the website daily and nothing.

Anyway..just hoping to meet some others playing the waiting game with me!! Hopefully by the grace of god I passed! It will be a miracle, but I have hope. Also my test shut off at 85. Good luck to all those waiting and congrats to those that have passed cause that was one crazy test!!!

That all depends, my nursing program made us pay our licensing fee early, like as in upon graduation, it was a part of the tuition we paid into our program, so they took care of it. If that's the case, you take the boards, and keep checking the boards website and you should know if you passed before your snail mail "you passed" comes. I found my license a week before it arrived in snail mail online.

However, if your program didn't pay for your initial licensing, then that's a totally different matter, you'll just simply have to wait for the snail mail version to come, pay your fee and they'll issue your license.

As for the boards, I walked out at 85 questions "knowing" i'd failed. I had to of guessed on over 1/2 of the questions. And I think you'll find that most people do leave their boards feeling like they didn't do all that well, but in fact passed nonetheless. One of my nursing school instructors told me that it's better that it shuts off early, than drag it on, because if your hitting 100, 120, 140, 170 questions, your borderline and the system is trying to figure out if you really know your stuff or not. Either you totally bombed it and the system can figure you don't know anything, or you passed with flying colors. Now even if you don't pass that doesn't mean you don't know what your doing. You may have just gotten a set of questions that were more difficult for you, and a second round will get you passed as your test won't be the same. I had a couple of 3.5 gpa's and above that had to take the boards a second time and passed the second time.

I guess what i'm really saying is, if you pass, great! If you don't pass, don't let that discourage you. If you feel weaker on pharm, make that a point to go back over meds and get more familiar with them for the second round, if that is in fact what ends up happening. Just because you don't pass it the first time doesn't mean you aren't a good nurse. It just means that the questions you were asked on the boards you didn't answer correctly.

Each time I read about a test taker waiting for their results in California, my blood boils. It is pure TORTURE to have to wait that long for results. I wonder why they do this. I totally emphasize with you on the wait.

I also passed at 85 and didn't know what the heck I was doing. I didn't recognize the medications and at one time, they asked me the exact same question on sildenafil and tadalifil and had the exact same four choices. I choose prolonged erection lasting more than 4 hours both times...heck...what else did they want?? I remember choosing answers with this rationale; "You look TOO insane to do in real life...you MUST be the answer they are looking for". I passed, and the first thing I said after I screamed with delight was "if they determined that I am a safe practitioner based on the answers I gave and my personal rationale, then, God help them".

Most people experience what you have and more often than not, they do, in fact, pass. Good luck!

Thanks for your replies! Yes, the waiting game here in california is ridiculous!! What is the big deal about getting unofficial results in 48 hours? This is pure torture. I have so many things up in the air pending this result..my IV cert class (suppose to take that next week), my application to the LVN to RN program, a job ect. I thought I could get faster results from the bvnpt website like the RN's but I guess I was wrong. Unfortunately my school doesn't pay the liscense fee for us. I have to wait for the mail and send it in. Then theres another month of waiting!! I hear of others in different states who have their result and liscense within days after the test?? Is our state that overwhelmed or just lazy?? Don't get it, but right now I am taking a microbiology class and algebra class and I can't even concentrate on those classes right now. If I am not thinking about the test I am having dreams about the test. It's nuts...I am a pretty laid back person and I had no idea something could get to me like this!!
Anyway..I don't know what to think, but I am pretty sure I bombed the pharm. I didn't even get any dosage questions..you would think they would want to make sure I can at least administer meds safely. So many priority question, nothing on diabetes. My instructor told us to know diabetes up down and sideways cause the exam has tons of questions on diabetes...makes sense, but nothing. One Lantus question..which I did get right.
Well.. I will just wait , wait and do somemore waiting!! While I am waiting I will just pray! Thats all I can do!

Does not matter who pays for what, the issue is that the license is not paid for until the bill is issued and that is not done until you get the letter that you passed the exam. You will never see your name on their website until the $100 license fee is paid. California is the only state that will only make you pay if you pass the exam, you do not pay if you do not pass.

It will take you at least three weeks to get your results in a letter from the Board. Nothing at all sooner. Sorry.

I'm confused. I registered in Calif. with PearsonVue (testing center) to take the test, paid $200. which our school reimbursed us for, then got my ATT and scheduled my appt. (for feb. 26) so do I still have to pay $100 ? And will it get posted on the board website any earlier or the letter comes first?

Another classmate of mine took it 2 wks ago friday and hasn't heard anything so 3 wks is definitely torture. She said the same thing about pharmacology and feels she didn't pass.

And yes, I'm stressing big time, but hanging in there and studying hard hard hard! I hope I don't pass out during the test!

Don't think you will pass out! I am sure you will be fine. The weird thing for me is that I was so amazingly calm during the test. It was after the test that I started freaking out. You still have to pay another $100 for your license. The $200 you paid to pearsonvue was just your testing fee that the testing center gets. I have some friends who graduated at the same time with me from the RN program and they accessed their names on the website a week later. However, I keep hearing that the Lvn board is different and you have to wait until you get the letter and pay the $100. I am so bummed cause this wait is horrible. Tomorrow will be a week since the test and it feels like an eternity. I really think those of us in cali need to complain about this. This is cruel and unusual punishment as far as I am concerned. The test is computerized..how hard is it to figure out the results and put them in the mail. I can understand taking longer if you failed..maybe they double check things just to make sure. But if you passed whats the problem. Also..there was a friend of mine who got a letter saying that she failed and when she called the board to find out what to do next..they told her that there was a mistake and she actually passed!!! What are these people doing to us!! I just get so frustrated! Anyway...relax, study and I am sure you will do fine. My only siuggestion is know your pharm cause I must have had 10 pharm questions on very different drugs. Good luck!

Thanks Poohbear73 for the info. And your input on your testing experience. That made me feel better. But just wait, the week after I'm be jammering on this because I'll be in your shoes freaking out!

I took my NCLEX-PN for California and received my results approximately 12 days later via mail.

I am officially on day 8, however I think it will take longer with the holiday and everything. Hopefully by the end of this week.
