Hey everyone!
Has anyone ever moved to another state and applied for licensure there?

We are moving at the end of the year and I am not sure of what steps I need to take to get my license in my new state. I know about reciprocity and my new state and current state have it.
Just wondering what I do next?!?

In 1998 we moved from New York to Tennessee. I had to contact Tennessee Board of Nursing and get paperwork from them to fill out for license in Tennessee. Also had to send form to NY board of nursing to fill out and they sent it to Tn board of nursing. Hope this helps.

I moved from California to Texas four months ago, and endorsing the California license into Texas was relatively simple. Call the B.O.N. of your destination state to obtain specific steps you'll need to take. If you live in a Nursing Compact state and plan to move to another Nursing Compact state, you will not need to take any steps. But since California is not in the Compact, I had to go through the endorsement process.

Sorry but if you move from one Compact state to another you have to give up your first compact license and obtain a license from the new compact state.

Ex. I hold a Compact license from the State of Maine. If I move to S.C., also a compact state I have to obtain a S.C. license.

I can still work in Maine but I will be working there on my S.C. compact license.

Your compact license has to be in your state of residence.

BTW good luck to the OP. NJ is not a fun state to deal with as far as their BON is concerned. They have been in and out of implementation for compact status too many times.

Imoved from In. to Ky. I contacted Ky BON and applied an received a temp. permit ,held it for amt. of time noted then received Nursing Licenses. Now I just renew them every 2 yrs. at $50 and initially it had cost approx. 150.00. There are also continuing Education classess in Ky.. Hope this has helped!!

I move quite a bit, as we are military. I have never had any issues getting my license any where as of yet. We are now on our way to Cali. This has been the most expensive and quite a pain actually. But, still I did get it. My suggestion would be to start the process prior to leaving your current state. Do a search on line for your states BON and go from there. I have had a license in MO, LA, and now California with no issues at all. The IV therapy can be tricky depending on the state. For Cali my IV cert does not transfer I have to get appropriate paperwork and show I can do it, then that paperwork is sent to the board and I am certified there. I didnt even think about this until recently and I am glad I asked, as I figured it would transfer. Good luck to you!

i am planning to move to california in the near future, maybe next summer, i currently live in virginia, the info discussed here helps alot with what i need to do to prepare. thanks for you input
