Question anyone know about 30-unit option program?

Does anyone know about this 30-unit option program? I know its an LVN to RN program and can challenge the NCLEX-RN Board and you must have a current, valid California LVN license and have to take certain prereqs...With this program, I dont think you can get any degree and is only available in community colleges in California. If anyone know more info about this, please let me know. Thanks!

I was thinking about it too...but was told that you can only work in CA...so I don't think it's a good idea.

Re: anyone know about 30-unit option program?

The California LVN-to-RN 30 unit option leads to 2 outcomes: a terminal education and a limited RN license.

The 30-unit education is terminal because it does not lead to a degree or diploma, and you simply cannot return to school to take a few classes and earn a degree once you have completed this option. You'll have to start from scratch as if you had never attended school before, and complete an entire 2 year ADN program or 4 year BSN program if you want the degree.

The 30-unit education leads to limited RN licensure because it can never be endorsed to any other state. Other states do not accept the 30-unit program and, therefore, will not allow you to practice registered nursing in their states with this education.

Yeah I heard that route is only good for California. If you think you will live and practice your whole life in California, then maybe it's alright to take that route. I would think twice though because you never know what the futute holds for us.

Re: anyone know about 30-unit option program?

There are programs that only admit LVNs.
You can then be licensed by endorsement in another state if your plans change.
