They are saying it was rat poison!
|
|
Does that mean it was on purpose? Does that mean it could happen to humans?

Nasty. I'm hoping it was some sort of accidental thing and not some evil plan from a sick mind.

It never occured to me that it might be deliberate till I heard what caused it. That is not to say that it was deliberate, it just means that the question has to be asked. I thought it was happening due to some genetically altered food product. Goes to show me that first you must always consider the usual suspects.

The cat food, you mean?
No, it was contaminated wheat from China, where it is still commonly used. It's banned here.
My ex-nursing home's cat is at the vet's now being dialyzed. This area was the epicenter for the bad food.

According to AOL news, ~15 cats and 1 dog died. And they said it was from rat poison in the canned and foiled dog and cat food marketed by Menu Foods. The drug is Aminopterin, used as chemotherapy in the US but as rat poison in other countries and is highly toxic in high doses. They reported that wheat gluten itself would not cause kidney failure but that could have been what had been contaminated. Menu Foods is facing law suits though no criminal charges have been made.

And to think there are still destitute humans who eat cat and dog food. Definitely something to think about.
