CHRISTMAS IS A FEELING
Christmas is a feeling,
Feel in the air.
It’s love and joy and laughter
Of people everywhere.
Christmas is a feeling,
Bringing good cheer.
It reaches out to touch you
As the holiday draws near.
It’s mistletoe and falling snow
And candles burning bright.
It’s a baby in a manger
On a cold winter night.
It’s noels, and chiming bells
And presents by the tree.
It’s the spirit of giving
In you and in me.
For Christmas is a feeling,
Feel in the air.
It’s love and joy and laughter
Of people everywhere.
But if Christmas is a feeling
Bringing such good cheer,
Then why, oh why
Can’t you and I
Try to make it last....
All year?
Why can’t it last all year?
20. How will you preserve Christmas memories/traditions for your children and/or grandchildren?
With the ornaments we collect, I guess.
Merry Christmas to all!!!

20. How will you preserve Christmas memories/traditions for your children and/or grandchildren?
I hope that focussing on family and fun, and not the gifts. Silly pictures, insisting on doing the same traditions year after year.
Christmas wasn't very important after my family split up when I was a child...I want it to be important to my kids and the family I have now. It's something that was very sad about my childhood, and I used to get very depressed over. Now during the holidays I look at my family and realize that I truly am blessed. I have a nice home, two wonderful kids that may not have come from my body but definitely have stolen my heart, a wonderfully kind and supportive husband. Traditions are important and comforting...and I much prefer the new traditions I am creating with my family versus all the holidays I used to spend alone or as the "sympathy guest" ( The one who isn't married and doesn't have any family to speak of, but it's the holidays so you feel sorry for her and insist she join your family for the holiday. )

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Hot chocolate!
2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Sits them under the tree! When Nick was little, Santa wrapped them, though.
3. Colored or white lights on tree and/or house? Color
4. Do you hang mistletoe? No.
5. When do you put up your decorations? All things being equal, the 2nd weekend of December. This year, I'm having my cookie exchange early (tomorrow night), so I did it this past weekend.
6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? Waldorf salad. It's my son's fave, too. We are cuckoo for Waldorf salad, and it's the only time of year that I make it.
7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child: Can't think of one favorite.
8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
I do not recall. I think it was somewhere between 3rd and 4th grades, though.
9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yes
10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? Beautifully, of course! When my Mom sold the house and downsized, she gave most of her Christmas ornaments, plus I buy at least one new one each year and always buy them when we travel, etc. My tree never looks the same two years in a row. We start with the color lights, then add the ornaments, one for each branch, so that the tree is a profusion of color and shapes. Heavier towards the bottom, lighter towards the top. Ornaments with the most significance in terms of memories go in front of the tree. We finish it off with candy canes and icicles.
11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? Now that I live somewhere that I don't have to shovel it or stand it in it whilst waiting for a bus, I love it. It usually means I'm about to ski down a mountain of it!
12. Can you ice skate? No, which is interesting because I used to roller skate on a regular basis.
13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Yes, a doll house. I played with that thing for hours upon hours, rearranging the rooms just so.
14. What's the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Spending time with family and friends and catching up with everyone
15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Banana cream pie. Not traditional, but we love it!
16. What is your favorite holiday tradition? I don't have a favorite.
17. What tops your tree? A twinkling star
18. Which do you prefer: Giving or Receiving? I love giving
19. What is your favorite Christmas Song? Oh, Holy Night
20. How will you preserve Christmas memories/traditions for your children and/or grandchildren? I think you preserve them best just by practicing them.
