suncare products

Don't you think that it is reasonable to expect that a sunscreen that is listed as specifically for children would be mild? I have sensitive eyes so I always use a Baby sunscreen that has never caused me discomfort. When I got to the beach I realized I did not have it so I used a product that had been purchased for my grandchild. I was careful not to get it in my eyes but later on I started to sweat and it got in my eyes and really caused me a lot of burning. I warned my daughter about it but she did not listen and used it on my grandchild. The kid had such a screaming fit when a little got in her eye that we were considering taking her to ER. Now if you are familiar with sunscreens you know that no matter how careful you are to keep them out of a kids eye when you apply, kids are going to rub eyes and then the trouble starts. I know sensitivities vary but my SIL was actually holding the kids face under the fawcet to flush like you would do in a chemical accident. It was a good 45 minutes before we got the kid settled down. We have since purchased the same Baby product that I have used for years without problems and the kid is totally fine with it. I don't think she was being a drama queen.

Re: suncare products

I don't think she was being drama queen either.

I had a melanoma 12 years ago, and have been ultra-careful since then about skin protection for myself and my family. One of the worst products I ever tried (in terms of burning the eyes) was Coppertone Water Babies.

I find that products that are specifically formulated for the face do tend to be more mild to the eyes than general sunscreens, and are also less likely to "run".

I don't think she was being a drama queen at all. I have used a couple of them that I had bought for my children that hurt my eyes as well and last summer the sunscreen we had for the little one (from a very reputable brand) I think got in her eyes. We were at the pool and her face got wet and from that point on she threw a fit when we were going to put it on her. I am convinced it got in her eyes and burned them.

Re: suncare products

Yes I have used products made especially for face. Yes they burned eyes less and ran less. Unfortunately, in my case anyway, my skin burned underneath them. I use this baby magic 50 for sensitive skin on my whole body including my face without any problems. It does not run, it does not burn my eyes, it give a long lasting waterproof protection and I only have to carry ONE bottle. That is why I like it and now my grandbaby likes it. Oh by the way, just to show how individual these things are my husband loaths the stuff. It is thick and you look like a ghost for about 10 minutes till it absorbs. When my husband ask me to hand him the sunscreeb he always says, "don't give me the nasty stuff".
