Re: question about mi

The pulse rate may be irregular, or may be faster or slower than the victim's normal pulse rate.

Re: question about mi

No, they can be all over the place. Some of them are on beta blockers and other cardiac drugs and those help to keep the HR down as well.

Re: question about mi

my 18yo dd was carrying in a box of rolls yesterday (very lightweight) when she started c/o pain in the epigastric area.
meanwhile, she starts slightly keeling over.
i grab the box and lead her to chair.
she's slightly diaphoretic, sob, meanwhile telling me that her chest has been hurting her throughout the ride home..
i could tell she was hurting.
i told her not to talk, and i grabbed my stethoscope.
her heartrate was 140's, reg.
lung fields clear
gave her an asa.
after 5 minutes, hr in the 60's w/tiff stating pain only on inspiration.
she refused to go to the doctor.

within half hr, all pain gone.

scared but puzzled the life out of me.
not seeking medical advice.
but it did occur to me that i honestly didn't know if someone could have an mi in absence of arrythymias and w/a hr wnl.

she's thin, 18, unremarkable hx and fit as a bull.
also got angry w/me when i asked about using cocaine, meth, other stimulants.
i mean, she really keeled over in pain.
today she's telling me it was indigestion:
that she had hot buffalo sauce prior in the day.

indigestion isn't 'painful' per se, rather, burning.

thanks for the info...
tn, link won't open for me.
will try again in a bit.

eta: in event mods are nervous about medical advice, feel free to close thread.
in gen'l, i honestly didn't know about normal, reg hr's in mi.

Re: question about mi

she's had her physical already, ingelin.
i called the doctor yesterday and she wouldn't even talk to me because tiff is 18...
and it's tiff's choice to seek med'l help or not.
it was such an acute episode though...
i mean, the diaphoresis and the sob w/the pain, as well as her elevated hr, pain...
everything led to an mi.
but i got confused when her hr was in the 60's but there was residual pain w/inspiration.
it dawned on me that i had no idea if someone could have an mi/angina w/a reg hr.

Re: question about mi

Possibly PSVT? SOB from lack of refill time, diaphoresis from anxiety related to SOB and palpitations.

Re: question about mi

Young women can frequently suffer from arythmias R/T hormones... A cardiologist nurse told me to take fish oil and magnesium to help with that (I was under a lot of stress and had a lot of PAC's that I could feel)

??? Gallstones.... when I had one - it felt like chest pain... Just a thought.

no, her heart was in a normal rhythm...no arrythymias or other audible abnormalities.
if it were, i would have called 911.
i know all of my kids, hubby's baselines in event something goes awry, such as yesterday.
and, she recently had a full workup.
lft's were normal.

i'm wondering if it was an acute stress/panic episode.
she's leaving for the marines in 10 days, and is getting a lot of pressure (from bf, friends) to not go.
who knows?
something to watch, for sure.

Re: question about mi

SVT is still an arrythmia though....

Could just be stress. She is leaving her home and family to go to the Marines.

Still, she should have that evaluated...

Good luck!
