Does prayer cause you to feel better? If so, click the link below for a collection of prayers that were written just for nurses and other assistive persons. I am quite surprised this particular web page has gotten less than 1,500 total hits. Enjoy and bless you all!

Re: Nursing Prayers

The following poem is the one that got to me the most. It's the way I viewed my role as a nurse for the first ten years in nursing. Then, after a five year sabbatical from nursing, I returned to a world of nursing that showed me no appreciation for my being that type of nurse/person/friend.
"FOR A SPECIAL NURSE
Long before you entered nursing
The Lord had played His part,
Planting seeds of love and kindness
In the portals of your heart.
For it's clear that you've been gifted
With a sympathetic ear,
And blessed from the beginning
With a willingness to cheer.
And the people who you care for
Are better off by far,
When they're touched by your compassion,
By the person that you are.
For in times of woe and worry
When they're frightened or they're blue,
No one could be more consoling than the friend they'll find in you.

You may think that sometimes but I can bet that there are many lives that you haved touched, and they will remember you for it. 4 years ago I had to go in for surgery for something I was sure was cancer. My husband didnt make it on time to see me off so I was alone. The man that wheeled me off to surgery must have seen the terror in my eyes because he grabbed my hand and told me with a sweet comforting smile that everything was going to be ok. That left such an impression on me. He is one of the reasons I am pursuing nursing today. I didn't know if he was a nurse, CNA or orderly but I sure remember what he looked like. You do make a difference. Remember that.

Nursing is one of those "thankless" fields, meaning that patients and co-workers hardly ever thank you or respect you (even though you made an impact on them). Even though not enough individuals are displaying that outward appreciation, I think they appreciate your efforts deep down.

THE STUDENT NURSE'S PRAYER
Lord: I know we go through this every day but please give me the knowledge as to why I actually wanted to go to nursing school. Lord, give me the strength to make it through those boring three hour lectures without falling asleep. Lord, please give me the patience to make it through twelve hour clinicals with instructors that can't just give you the right answer and on the same note, give the nurses the ability to remember what it was like to be a student and give us just a little more respect. Lord, give me the endurance to read all the assigned readings and be able to remember it when I am taking a test with four right answers. Lord, give my family and friends the ability to realize I really am on the edge of insanity. Finally, Lord, give me the vision to see that one day I will be a real nurse and I will never have to wear this ugly uniform again.

That is too funny. I think I will be praying that one for a year.
