Re: New Avatar

Shelby can come to visit anytime.
Charlie the cat teases Murphy as well. She will sit on the other side of the fence just out of reach so that Murphy will bark himself hoarse. So I don't feel too bad for her when she ventures too close and gets chased out of the yard.

40 was perfectly ok.

Same here--but since I'm SOOO much older than you, leslie, I've had more time to adjust!!

Thirty was so long ago, and at forty I was gritting my teeth waiting for the last kid to graduate.

Other than sore and non-working parts, life is good!

since i've always been so anal in showing our elders their due respect, i suppose i'll have to start showing you the same????
(actually, that wouldn't be too difficult.)

but you want to know the nicest thing about growing old?
my 18yo dtr still lovingly refers to me as a '****'...
even when i told her i'm much too old for 'that'.
and she looks at me and says, "oh mama (yep, she calls me mama), you'll always be beautiful".
now, that's true love.
and even better?
i don't even care about the lines that are creeping up.
i've earned them and wear them well.
there is nothing so precious in this world, than being content w/who you are...
flaws and all.

Re: New Avatar

I don't know how to age gracefully or be at peace. I'm "me" til I look in the mirror or someone reminds me that I'm 40 something. I don't think about it til someone reminds me if that makes sense.

i think that's why i'm on such a high, rnsc...
that living in a society where youth and physical beauty are revered, i not only totally reject that, but can truly appreciate the beauty in self-revelation.
my dtr is so gorgeous, yet even at 18, she knows what true beauty is all about...
and that our physical shell is only a means of sustaining ourselves.
tiff is already rebelling against the plastic in our society.
and i'm not only referring to recycling, although she does that too.

you need to continue to be yourself and love the person you are from inside out.
once attained, everything else falls into place.

Leslie! My mom-in-law's birthday is August 28th. Except she won't be 50, she's old enough to be YOUR mom! She'll be 70. And she's as spry, "hip" and young as she was the day I met her son 20 years ago! Love that woman to pieces.

BTW, I'm with you, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Bull Mastiff's. 'cept I am all of 4'11 and 95lbs, that dog would take me for walks LOL. Hubby just gave a big thumbs down to getting one (he's not the animal lover of the family)

I have two Boxers. Nothing beats Boxer love! My babies are about 75lbs a piece. Big doggies that people are terrified of, they say they "look" mean. Not my babies, as gentle as lambs they are
