My MIL died

I am so sad. She was such a good person and was only in her 50's. She started c/o cp on monday, was admitted to a very small rural hospital on tues, released wed with a dx of heartburn. Thursday am around 0330, FIL took her to a larger local hospital. They pursued the idea of it being hiatal hernia related. She went into resp distress and then asystole. She was xferred to the unit and got a total of 5 restarts after she was put on the vent. When I got there her resps were agonal around the tube and her pulse continued stopping and starting on its own. She never regained consciousness and couldn't sustain a rhythm. She would go from NSR to PEA or asystole and could be shocked back to NSR. She died around 1820. I am extremely upset because I couldn't help and I couldn't prevent this and I don't even know what happened. The family declined an autopsy. She meant so much to us and I am just devastated. The doc didn't know what happened. She was in acidosis cause her pH was 6.9 and I forgot what he said the bicarb level was. Her cardiac enzymes did show an elevation of one total point. We did go back and talk to her even though she was gone. I hope she knew how much we loved her and how much she meant to us.
