Bad news ... the labs are now showing he's going into renal failure.

But, the labs were taken yesterday right before we got him on the IV fluids. My vet also put him on IV antibiotics.

The vet says we'll know in a couple of days whether or not he's going to make it. My only hope is that I've been reading that most of the animals who get IV fluids do make it. I just hope we did it in time.

This is so horrible, so heartbreaking. How could they do this to poor animals?

He was such a healthy, happy dog before all of this ... the horrible skin allergy was bad enough. His renal labs were fine just a couple of weeks ago ... now he has renal failure on top of everything else.

It totally breaks my heart. My poor baby ... I am so angry with these people I could scream !!!

Hi Lizz
I know how heart-broken and worried you must be. I lost my dog a few weeks ago due to renal failure....but he was on Prednisone for arthritis which is probably what caused his renal failure...so it's not the same as your situation. Is your dog still voiding? If so, that is a good sign.

Thanks for all of your posts. To be honest, I don't care about me ... all I care about is my dog.

He's been suffering with this thing for nearly six weeks now ... just when we thought we licked the skin allergy, which caused him a tremendous amount of suffering ... now this.

I just hope he doesn't die.

The horrible thing is that I've always bought the supposedly "best" food for my dogs ... and spared no expense for their health. What a scam this has turned out to be.

He was yesterday ... not much but, I personally took him out to see if he could void ... which he did. I don't know about today because I had to work and he stayed in the hospital overnight and is still there.

Because of his allergies we had him on prednisone for a few weeks because his symptoms were so bad which, I stopped about two weeks ago so ... I hope that didn't make the renal problems worse but it was the only thing that seemed to keep him from going into anaphylactic shock.

It's been so hard to diagnose all of this ... we had to take him to a specialist in another county just to figure out what was causing the skin allergies and get that resolved ...

And, of course, it turned out that the recalled dog food caused the skin allergies.

Overall ... it's been a nightmare trying to get him well.

Short-term prednisone use shouldn't cause renal failure. My dog was on it for a year.
