Dale - my dh and I did Atkins and the pounds did just melt off - it was great. But then you go back to eating a more normal diet and that includes too many carbs and having seconds and thirds of meals and grabbing that box of Cheez-it crackers and your self-control goes out the window and we've both gained all the weight back.
My dh was diagnosed with metabolic syndrome (diabetes, high bp, high cholesterol) about 2 years after losing weight and gaining it back. He has had the typical shape of folks who get ill - the skinny legs and butt with a tummy. That abd fat will kill you . . .
He has lost about 25 pounds, mostly through not eating such large portions and riding a bike but the weather has curtailed the exercise and his weight is creeping up . . . his labs 3 months ago were bad . . .
I'm not much help when I eat badly too . . .
If only we were rich and could afford a trainer who would follow us around all day and cook us healthy foods and get out the whip to make us get up from this computer and go work out . . . . . .
