Re: How did people on here meet there spouses?

My husband and I were high school sweethearts. I can remeber the first time I saw him....I thought he was cute but kinda a show-off. He was very smart and very popular, unlike me. I was very shy back then. He was the class president, National Merit Scholar, etc., etc. We started dating when we were Juniors, but didn't marry until 5 years later. We went to different colleges, but we continued to date. He actually proposed to me before we went off to college. He finished engineering school in 3 years (I told you he is a brain). We got married the summer before my senior year in nursing school, and he worked on his Masters while I finished my last year. Those were lean times, but we were very happy. Now 2 kids and 30 years later, we are still happily married. We've been through alot together.

Re: How did people on here meet there spouses?

We met in the US Air Force, while stationed in Arizona. We were both active duty, working in the same engine shop---he was a jet mechanic, and i did the ordering of their parts and supplies. It was a shop of about 150 men and maybe, 6 women so I made it a habit NOT to date them as I was not interested in being the "topic du jour" among those guys.

Now this is the funny part: Long before we had made acquaintance, (he did not even know my name), he pointed me out to his coworkers and said, "See that redhead over there? She wants me, she just doesn't know it yet!" They said "yea riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. Dream on, she is stuck-up".

Well, 2 years later, we married. The thing that attracted me to him was his shyness around me, and not once did he flirt or hit on me.

We celebrated the 19th anniversary of our first date last month!!!! No regrets.

Re: How did people on here meet there spouses?

After many diasterous relationships which started online, I finally said "Forget it" to computer dating and decided to take the plunge and went to a dating service.

I didn't meet my husband right off, there were a few guys who called and it never went anywhere. One night someone called from the service and asked if I'd consider dating someone who was 8 years younger than myself. I've always done well with younger guys, so, I thought it might be good. He called me a few nights later, and we talked for about an hour. He was set to go on vacation and we had made a date for 2 weeks later after he got back. The day before he went on vacation he called me just to say hi and said to have a nice week. I thought that was really sweet. After he returned, he called me within the hour of his arrival. We met the next night, and although I really can't say it was love at first sight, I knew that I had something very special with him... and I was right. 20 months later we got married, and now, 20 months after getting married I'd have to say we are still in the newlywed phase!

I know it might be hard to find someone, whether you are male or female. Don't give up, try various avenues, some you may have never thought of. I got married for the first time at age 37, and the previous year (actually, the previously month before we met) I thought I'd never get married.

Re: How did people on here meet there spouses?

We met through work. She taught my new-hire class. I asked her to go to lunch to give me advice on my career path. It took awhile, but she finally said yes! I then managed to talk her into going to a concert with me that night, and we've been together ever since

Re: How did people on here meet there spouses?

I met DH through a friend of a friend by chance...we were going to get some fishing equipment from his house. We were 15 years old at the time. He instantly became my best friend and we dated on and off...but remained so close during off times that other beaus and gals were jealous/suspicious. After highschool, we joined the military together. We were inseparable after that, completely caught up in each other. In 2004, we were married. Immediately following, he was unexpectedly deployed for a year. It was rough, but we survived and have now been married two years.

We grew up together and have influenced each other so much, sharing and creating our 'family values'...I can't imagine a more compatable mate at times...and then there are other times haha...

Don't give up! Don't settle or lower your standards either...sometimes we find what we are looking for only after we stop looking for it!

Re: How did people on here meet there spouses?

Met my dh in a local bar where a friend of mine was waitressing. She had to talk me into dating him. (I had severe trust issues following a failed marriage.)

We just clicked immediately and we've been together ever since.

It'll be 18 years tomorrow.

Re: How did people on here meet there spouses?

I met my dh through my ex-bestfriend. My dh was friends with her husband. It turns out that dh and I lived in the same town, and went to the same school. But he was a 1993 grad, and I was a 1997 grad, so we weren't in the same school at the same time.

I just got out of a bad relationship, and was not looking for another. My friend set up a blind date for us, and I blew him off. My friend and I are very different, and everyone she ever hooked me up with had a very bad ending. I didn't want to meet him. The next day was my friends birthday party, which I obviously couldn't blow off. And he was there, still hoping to meet me.

We both got crazy drunk, and wound up kissing that night. The next night we had our first "date". We went for coffee. That night I knew he was the man I was going to marry. We married 6 1/2 years later.
