Morning, Fone, Joe, All:
My BIL started his Chemotherapy yesterday. One of the drugs he is receiving is Cisplatin, and I think the other one is Gemzar. He is going to have a port-a-cath put in on Tuesday, because he is a hard stick (they tried seven times, before they finally found a vein that didn't blow after 30 minutes). Don't ask me why they haven't already done it, for he is going to have to have it through October.
It's the end of yet another hairy week at work....and the LPN I work with and I found out yesterday that the Executive Director isn't going to be hiring any more nurses. In addition, they took away the Lead Coordinator's Clients and gave them to the other three Coordinators, who are already
drowning in an unmanageable workload, as the other nurse and I are. It seems that the Lead CC (who sits in her office all day with the door shut), didn't have "enough" time to get her "reports" done. She got her wish, despite the fact that it is common knowledge that she gets away with doing substandard work...even though she expects
perfection from everyone else. My co-worker has repeatedly complained to our Supervisor about her shoddy documentation which SHE has to clean up every time she has to go out and do a reassessment on one of her Clients to no avail. In the meantime,
no uncrossed "t" or undotted "i" goes unnoticed on her's or anyone else's work.
I was in my office the other day
desperately trying to get caught up on a month's worth of reassessments and admissions (not to mention QA's), when my Supervisor walked in, handed me a printout with
four more admissions, smiled and said: "Happy Birthday".....and walked out.
How droll.

Yesterday it was announced that we are having a mandatory Staff Meeting on Monday morning....and guess
what one of the topics for discussion is going to be?: Yep, you guessed it: "Time Management".
Just.....
imagine the pleasure I am going to experience afterwards....as I feed whatever handouts they give us on the subject....through the shredder.
"Time Management" is just another
worthless piece of crap used by employers as a justification for working what
little staff they have left, to
death.
We don't need useless meetings on "Time Management". We need adequate staffing, in order to ensure that our needy Clients receive the care that they are entitled to. Period.
One of the Administrative Secretaries told me the other day that the nurse who had the office I am in now used to sit at her desk and cry, for she was so overwhelmed. The other nurse (when she wasn't out in the field), never came out of her office...even to eat
lunch. That is
ridiculous.
Both of these nurses quit within two weeks of each other back in February...which fully explains
why I was hired less than 24 hours following my interview.
I called a former co-worker of mine last night, who told me that they are expecting to hear from the State any day regarding their application for an additional provider number, which has been in the works for over a year. In addition, their funding has been restored for the grant program which was cut last year, forcing me to find other work. She is going to call me as soon as they hear something. My former Manager put me on "PRN" status when I left....which means that I will not have to reapply for my old job.
I am (needless to say), looking forward to the prospect of being able to work again for my old Manager...who not only does
not put up with Deadwood employees (like the one I described above)...but who is also fair, flexible and "tells it like it is". Besides, the job pays $5.00 an hour more than what I am now making.
