Re: Good morning Allnurses! January 30, 2008

Hey everyone...
Still stupid cold out there. This winter is wearing me out. Looking at flights to Phoenix lifted my spirits today...hoping to get out during spring training and catch a few games. That is, if I can fit it in my budget and my schedule....
Got home from work today, and I swear that bathtub was calling my name...would love a long hot soak, but I have class tonite, and I know that once I get in there, I'm done for the nite...
Gonna run for now since I had troubles getting into the chatroom...ttyl...

Re: Good morning Allnurses! January 30, 2008

Hey there all -

Dria - nice to see you - My mom lobbied for a postion in Arizona this spring so that she could come out and stay for spring training!

jnette, my dad got laid off right before I was born too - he painted houses and did other odd jobs for a while.... things worked out for my parents then too.

Working in acute care tonight - only have one patient - 3 open beds - it has a lot of potential to be busy.

My d sis made brownies today while I slept - I planned on bringing a couple into work, but got here and realized I had forgotten them.....aargh - I have been craving chocolate a lot lately.

Gooooooooood evening maties,

Wow another great day at work.
Nice patients, nice wind now NICE hair doo LOL
Chilling here with a glass of red wine and having a giggle at you all.

Netters how exciting to know a wee bonny babe will be here soon enough. Ahhhhh those sweet bubby smells.

I am sorry to read of Mutti and the increased confusion. Hang tight my friend and take a deep breath in through ya nossie and out through ya mouth. Repeat said order 10 times. Repeat PRN when things are starting to pile up.

Loved the photos and I have a 'thing' for barns so I LOVED the first pic.

Hope the wind has not blown too many of you away today. Gosh talk about brass monkey weather!

Joe glad you had a great day at Clinicals. When is the test? Is it tomorrow? Hope you do get to get some meditation in tonight. Oops I initially wrote medication hahahahahahaha

Well I will read a few more posts then slide into bed.

Hugs to you all.

Re: Good morning Allnurses! January 30, 2008

Greetings to all!

Jnette, once more: breathe.
Things will get sorted out.
Angie posted some really good advice.
How I wish I were close by, to hold baby Gavin (when he arrives)!
Bless you! (and dd and sil!)

My sis has been hospitalized the past few days for new-onset CHF.
She's 54, has smoked since she was 16 or so.
Her Cardiologist (yes, I spoke with him ) is leaning toward a viral source.
My baby brother died six yr ago, age 40, of complications from CHF.
She was initially in ICU, but has been in tele for the past two days.
She sounds better every day (but discouraged with her lack of energy/strength and 'why did my body betray me???' mentality).
Not asking for sympathy (healing thoughts and prayers are good ) by sharing the above, but what I really wanted to share is:
When I talked to her today, she was cute, telling me," I've never been in the hospital before, and seen just what the nurses do. They run their TAILS off, ALL the time!!!"
me: "yes, C, that they do." (big grin on my end)
She is doing better; I hope she goes home tonight or tomorrow (so does she, she's getting antsy ).

Gotta go make supper.

Thank you, Leslie.
She lives in Sacramento area, so I've been 'following' her from afar (but I HAD to speak w/ her MD, as I 'needed' medical info, kwim?).

Thank you Dale . . .

Retirement . . . . wow . . I'm 50 and going back to college. And have a 6 year old and an 18 year old about to head off to college. Plus two adult sons.

It'll be a long long time until I can retire. Although I will keep my promise to NEVER EVER work full-time again.

Dianah - you have 1st degree relatives with heart disease - I know you are being careful. Prayers sent up for your sis - she is not that far from me.

Joe - I use corn tortillas for tacos . . .flour have more calories . .of course I don't fry my tortillas, I just warm them up. I love the taste of corn w/o frying them. And I really don't like those crispy ones you buy in the store. But I love mexican food. My brother-in-law is Hispanic and makes the best homemade flour tortillas.

Venipuncture is fun - good luck with that.

steph
Thank you for your prayers and concern.
I do know we have a strong family hx.
I don't know if my brother's was ischemic CM (he refused a cath) or viral . . or ETOH-induced.
He did smoke for a while, and (so my sis just informed me) had his nightly drinky-poo, even after being diagnosed w/CHF.
My mom has cor pulmonale (was an alcoholic for many years), has defied all odds and is still alive nearly 6 yr after she was dx'd and told she'd live *maybe* two years.
My dad died in his late 40's, yes: MI.
They ALL smoke/smoked heavily.
I don't, never have.
I do take my Lipitor.
I need to lose a few lbs./exercise.
Thx for the reminder!
