Need Information - eye problems

I have a major concern. My son's eye sight in his left eye has gotten blurry, now he can't see colors in that eye. We took him to our Opthamoligist, and he found a blood clot behind his eye. He described it as a "stroke in his eye". He is sending him to a cornal specialist. Appt. this afternoon. I have never herad of this - any body have any ideas? By the way, he is diabetic, but the MD said he saw NO diabetic retenopathy.

Re: eye problems

I put 'stroke in the eye', in google and came up with this link. There are several others as well:

Hope this helps and I will pray for your son.

Re: eye problems

Dear kwagner 51,
Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers, we need them. Went to the surgeon today, and he said that he is not as concerned with the large blood clot, because it is in the lower edge of the eye. The reason Shawn has a "curtain" over his left eye is because there is quite a bit of stenosis of the capilaries in the middle of the eye, and also alot of diabetic retenopathy in that eye, esp. for a 29 yr old. He said that he usually doesn't see this much retenopathy untill the patient is in the late 50's -60's. He is going to laser the vessels, and MAYBE it will help clear his vision. If the clot gets any bigger, or this doesn't help, then he will consider surgery.
Thank you for the website, it answered a few questions for me. PLEASE, keep us in your prayers.

Re: eye problems

angel's RN, I will keep your son in my prayers. I hope that everything turns out ok.

Is he a brittle diabetic? I've never heard diabetics have eye problems so early in life.

Re: eye problems

Thank you very much for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers. No, he is not considered "brittle", but he lived in Kansas for about 2-1/2 years, and didn't have the funds for meds, and didn't know how to find places to help get them. When he came home in Jan. this year, his sugar's were in the 400-450 range - consistantly. He told me that they have been that way the entire time he was in Kansas. After I gave him h--- (sorry!), I worked real hard with him, and got his blood suger down below 130-140, and oral meds are now taking care of everything. He is still on a sliding scale, but hasn't had to take any insulin for about two months.
Again, thanks alot for thinking of us and keeping us in your prayers. We need them all!!!!!!!
