Blackberry Failure

There is a massive blackberry system failure. Apparently it was triggered by heavy voting on the American Idol show last evening. It was so heavy the system could not handle the volume and went down. I was laughing about this until my son in law explained to me that millions of companies will experience financial loss as result of this failure. He works for large company that was unable to contact it's oncall people during night for serious technical problems. It is unbelievable how the technology age has developed in less than half a century. When I was age 14 I learned to type on manual typewriter, then they came out with electric typewriters and I was amazed. Now I look out on a world where the sky falls if Blackberry goes down.

Yes, remember the IBM Selectric typewriter? That's what I learned on! I also had a job in 1986 (incredibly boring) where I fed these plastic data cards into a slot in a special typewriter and info came up and I could type out insurance policies.

Now, my Palm treo goes everywhere with me, contains phone numbers, calendar, email, and I can even access All Nurses with it - lol.

I hear Palm treo users are chuckling about the situation cause they are fine. Oh by the way, if it wasn't for this Blackberry situation the big tech story would be that the Turbo tax filing system got overloaded yestereday. The people that produce the Turbo tax are crawling on their hands and knees to IRS begging them to give their late filing customers a grace period. Modern Problems.

Yes! I worked on one of those. WE changed the ball thingies to change the type. Too cool.

Do you know at the end of the day Blackberry stock went UP! It was because investors suddenly realized how wildly successful those things have become. Perhaps if the outage had continued longer than 12 hours the stock would have taken a dive, but to me and everyone else the fact that they could fix it so quickly was good sign. Besides that we all know they will move to make sure it does not happen again. PS I sure would love to have one toooooo.....
