BBQ Rules

After months of cold and rainy weather, we are finally coming up to summer and BBQ season. Therefore it is important to refresh your memory on the etiquette of this sublime outdoor cooking activity, as it's the only type of cooking a 'real' man will do, probably because there is an element of danger involved. When a man volunteers to do the BBQ the following chain of events are put into motion:

Routine...
(1) The woman buys the food.
(2) The woman makes the salad, prepares the vegetables, and makes dessert.
(3) The woman prepares the meat for cooking, places it on a tray along with the necessary cooking utensils and sauces, and takes it to the man who is lounging beside the grill - beer in hand.

Here comes the important part :
(4) THE MAN PLACES THE MEAT ON THE GRILL .

More routine....
(5) The woman goes inside to organize the plates and cutlery.
(6) The woman comes out to tell the man that the meat is burning. He thanks her and asks if she will bring another beer while he deals with the situation.

Important again :
(7) THE MAN TAKES THE MEAT OFF THE GRILL AND HANDS IT TO THE WOMAN.

More routine....
(8) The woman prepares the plates, salad, bread, utensils, napkins, sauces, and brings them to the table.
(9) After eating, the woman clears the table and does the dishes.

And most important of all:
10) Everyone PRAISES the MAN and THANKS HIM for his cooking efforts .
(11) The man asks the woman how she enjoyed "her night off." And, upon seeing her annoyed reaction, concludes that there's just no pleasing some women....

Re: BBQ Rules

No real men in my immediate family.
DH does all the buying, preparing, and cooking the meat. I just do salads, corn, and sides.
He drinks beer and pours some on the meat.

Dad didn't do anything. Mom and her brother did it all.
Son bakes the cakes and corn bread. His wife doesn't cook at all.

Non of those guys like quiche.

It seems that I don’t need to improve my BBQ skills.... my last refreshment BBQ course was canceled also, good for me!
So women do almost everything under American BBQ rules....oh yes....

Exactly!

My oldest son is the bbq expert in our family. He bbq'd a couple of lovely marinated tri-tips last night.

He also helped shuck the corn along with my dh, my 5 year old and my dd. Shucking corn is fun - you toss the silk on each other and make a mess of NaNa's kitchen.

I made the pasta salad. I cut up the watermelon.

Everyone helped clear the table.

Re: BBQ Rules

Went to Poconos with Dad, youngest brother and 18yot son.
Dad brought his homemade potato salad and macaroni and cheese, meatballs. He made pancakes and sausages for breakfast one day, did the grilling of hamburgers and hot dogs.

I ordered rotisserie chicken from store 2 doors up from cabin. Brought pies and fruit/veggies from farmers market on way up. All I did was heat up food or dishes.

Now at home, Tazzi post applies.

Dad is one of a kind. He did the food shopping since 1960's as Mom didn't drive. He's now chief cook, dishwasher, handyman extraordinaire along with caring for my sofabound Mom.

He doesn't eat quiche either... he's passed along lots of his skills to youngest son now in culinary college....

.....bummer that DS wouldn't share his pork chop recipe last Thursday much better than mine.
