Anyone a workout junkie??

Curious to see how many other regular exercisers we have around here. I love to ride my bike, run, hike, walk w/bf etc. but the ones I manage to stick to are the biking and running. I try to exercise for an hour, 6 days a week (e.g. 10 mi. bike ride, 5 mi. run).

However, I hate lifting weights and I hate gyms. It's gotta be outdoors for me, even in this 100 degree heat. I'll take the heat over grunting people doing circuits or waiting my turn for someone who is dripping their sweat all over a treadmill, lol.

What's your endorphin fix?

I'm slowly turning into one

I mostly run - but I also do a ton of free weights. My "bench" for the benchpress is a simple plank laid between two chairs!

Just a borderline junkie, but yes, has to be outdoors for me too! I usually walk 1.5-3 miles a day with a friend in the morning before it gets too hot. I hope to get back into tennis and swimming, but I'm a little consumed now with getting ready for fall semester classes.

I was once an avid exerciser until about three years ago. I was running five miles daily, bicycling, using the stationary stairclimber at a fast rate, and lifting free weights.

Now I am overweight and suffering from back problems. I would do almost anything to recapture the energy I had back then.....

Start slowly.

Build up safely.

You CAN do it!

I can't seem to make it in the gym, but I do run 2 + miles a day, jog with my dog a few times a day and hike whenever possible. I think it keeps me sane.

Re: Anyone a workout junkie??

Kinda... my biggest obstacle is time. I want to exercise more but sometimes the schedule just doesn't allow. I've never been into gyms, used to be dance classes, but now it's more walking or using workout DVDs (I like the privacy of my own place, plus I can pop one in whenever I want). Recently I've gotten on a Kundalini yoga kick and also have upped the walking.

Re: Anyone a workout junkie??

I used to be the same way, an avid runner and minimally worked out my upper body.

My spouse gave me a gym membership and it helped with conditioning the overall body, including the lower because running actually doesn't build strong legs in all the muscle groups of the legs.

I also took up yoga for flexibility.

For me it's a balance of strength, flexibility and cardio.

I was sidelined by a bad knee and am now stuck on the low impact machines at the gym. I read and listen to music which helps. I miss those long runs in that heat, sweating like a pig, ahhh....loved it.

Re: Anyone a workout junkie??

I love to workout and find that it keeps me sane. I exercise 5 times a week when school is out. I run 2 miles and speedwalk a mile or I mountain bike for about 45 min. During the school year time is very tight for me (full-time student and full-time job) so I settle for my ellipse machine 3-4 times each week.

My goal this coming semester is to make it outdoors to run once a week - the fresh air is so much nicer than inside my house but the ellipse has that bookrest...

I've also been toying around with yoga. Nothing formal since I don't have a ton of cash these days but I have a book and have been trying to work on it a few times a week.
