Question Alli: aka Orlistat

Has anyone ever used the main component of the Alli weight loss plan; Orlistat? In case you've been living under a rock the last few weeks, a lot of stores have started selling a diet and exercise program along with a bottle of orlistat, a FDA fat-blocking medication. It's about $60 for a 2-month supply. The pills are to be taken with a low (<10mg) fat diet, or the program states you may experience "treatment side effects" such as anal leakage, gas with oily discharge, or what the brochure describes as "pizza grease" appearing in toilets/BMs. I'm curious to see what you all have experienced... it seems that the motivation for eating a lowfat diet is pretty high based on expected side effects when consumed with a high-fat meal. The product purports to increase weight loss by 50% with diet and exercise changes.... Any thoughts?

Re: Alli: aka Orlistat

This discussion came up in the gen forum. I thought about taking it because it's half as expensive as Meridia, but I work home health in a rural ag county.....not a good combination with the possibility of uncontrolled bowel movements! I'll stick with my Meridia....it may be expensive but it's working and I don't have to worry about where the nearest bathroom is at any given time.
