Can a nurse who does purely utilization review, take the CCM certification exam?

Re: UR and CCM

I think you have to be involved in all aspects of CM... but I'm a newbie so I'm not totally sure. Go to the website www.cmsa.org, they should have the info there.

How can you get your foot in the door of utilization nursing? I have a critical care and pediatric background. Should I start working home health and case manage then move on or what? Any info would be great about UR nursing.

Re: UR and CCM

thanks for the reply! i looked at the website.. it seems that you can't. i'll probably just take the CPUR next year

i think a headhunter just saw my profile in monster. Have only heard about UR before, was doing post anesthesia care in an ambulatory center before i decided to go into UR. Try looking at the insurance and TPA websites.. like Cigna, Wellpoint, Aetna, etc.. it's a great job love the hours!!!

Just saw this. Yeah, Kim, didn't think you could without the CM experience.

Good luck!
