Re: Rn Case Mngr Position With Ccm Preferred?????

From what you wrote, the employer doesn't offer alot of information. For instance, what type of company is it? Is travel required? What client population is to be case managed?

Home health case management is a good foundation for most case management experiences. My experience with HH CM was that I had to provide direct care as well as coordinate services. In an area like workmen's comp, LTC, hospital, behavioral health or insurance, you don't provide direct care, but you have to be able to relate your experiences of direct care with each of your cases.

I invite you to go to the www.cmsa.org (Case Management Society of America) website to get information and resources on CM. Best wishes with whatever you decide.

I am a CCM and it is lucrative if you are working for an insurance company or medical group. It is a certification that requires you having worked in the field and then you take the test. The certification is good for 5 yrs and you need all CCM CEU's (85 total) for to avoid taking the test again.

The CCM test covers rehab, psych, about 1/3 workers comp in the total of contents. And some questions about Medicare, MCAL ( or Medicaid ) and PPO/HMO stuff. You will definitely be more marketable after having the cert.

How is it lucrative? Not more than working in a hospital. I work in an insurance company...while I do not have my CCM yet my salary is as high as those nurses with their CCM.

What I mean is you will have more opportunities in many different areas and more companies ( if you work for an insurance company, I am surprised they are not asking you to have this cert). I average quite a few offers and this is what I mean by lucrative, in that more opportunities. The salary depends on the company and what the range of the salary would be, but I make alot more than hospital nurses. Whether I am doing hospital case management or working for a medical group.

If they are paying you as much w/o a CCM cert, I am wondering why.....are the people with the cert there longer and they desperately needed more nurses or are you more qualified than your peers with a cert? Probably the former......they are hiring new nurses with NO experience at the hospital where I work and it takes them 6 months to grasp concepts.....

I am taking my CM certification next year but I am not required to or even encouraged to. I work in a job where I do a combination of case management and disease management. I came from hospital experience of many years. I am also looking at further education and am involved on a team creating applications for our department. Where is a good place to see what other options there are after getting your CCM certification. I am on par with my hospital pay.

lucrative because in field case managment, you can bonus in addition to your salary and also get reimbursed the IRS rate for the mileage you do. Workers comp is very lucrative in the field, reqwarding, challenging and no 2 days are the same. We are in high demand in this competative field. More lucrative if bilingual..it is awesome, I work for a awesme company for several yrs and I would never leave... MHAYES !!

I think it depends on where you live. I am a case manager and the job openings are sparse. I have found the wages to be somewhat low. I am not certified, but even with certification the wages are not that great.

Re: Rn Case Mngr Position With Ccm Preferred?????

there are affiliate positions for field case managers where yuo live. It would be similar to subcontracting your CM to a company and billing them. You use their company forms , their compny logo and reports. It can be lucrative that way

Re: Rn Case Mngr Position With Ccm Preferred?????

I am CM, working with the medicaid population. My salary is very low compared to when I did direct care. I took a 10K reduction, however, I do work from home, essentially make my own schedule & yes, I do enjoy my job. Just wish the salary was higher, since I am in my late 40's...very important to be able to save for future retirement. On my current salary, not able to pay down bills & save like I used to. That is the only negative thing about my job.
